Job Overview: The General Protection Officer – Case Management is a pivotal role within the DRC's protection program in Bangladesh. This position is responsible for the high-quality implementation of case management activities, ensuring that individual protection cases are managed effectively. The officer will work under the technical guidance of the Protection Manager and Coordinator, with direct supervision from the Protection Team Leader (PTL). The role requires the officer to foster collaborative relationships with humanitarian actors and governance structures, actively representing DRC in field-level coordination platforms. The officer will ensure compliance with donor requirements and DRC’s internal policies regarding reporting, accountability, and data protection, thereby contributing to the overall effectiveness of the protection program.
Duties and Responsibilities: The General Protection Officer will conduct assessments of individual protection risks identified during daily activities, providing Individual Protection Assistance (IPA) and making timely referrals to relevant service providers. The officer will identify cases requiring urgent intervention and provide direct accompaniment to service points as necessary. Training and ongoing support will be provided to field-level protection volunteers to enhance their capacity. The officer will collaborate with the Protection Team Leader to develop work plans, set priorities, and participate in regular case management meetings. Maintaining accurate and confidential case documentation and protection data is essential, as is contributing to internal and donor reporting. Building strong relationships with stakeholders and liaising with protection and humanitarian partners will be crucial for coordinated responses. The officer will also represent DRC in relevant coordination forums and ensure compliance with operational procedures, upholding DRC’s Code of Conduct and humanitarian standards.
Required Qualifications: Candidates must possess a minimum of 2-3 years of relevant work experience in a humanitarian organization, with at least 2 years in the protection sector related to the Rohingya refugee response. A strong understanding of protection case management, community-based protection, and protection monitoring is essential. Prior experience with an international or local NGO or United Nations agency is required. Proficiency in Chittagonian and Rohingya dialects is essential for effective community engagement, alongside strong communication skills in English and Bengali. Basic knowledge of narrative reporting and the ability to contribute to case summaries and donor reports is also necessary.
Educational Background: A minimum of a university degree in social sciences, such as Social Work, Anthropology, Psychology, Development Studies, law, or relevant disciplines is required. A Master’s degree in a relevant discipline is preferable, indicating a higher level of expertise and understanding of the complexities involved in protection work.
Experience: The position requires a minimum of 2-3 years of relevant work experience in a humanitarian context, specifically within the protection sector. Candidates should have demonstrated experience in case management and a solid understanding of the challenges faced by vulnerable populations, particularly in the context of the Rohingya refugee response.
Languages: Proficiency in English (advanced), Bengali (advanced), and Chittagonian/Rohingya dialect (verbal) is mandatory. The ability to communicate effectively in these languages is crucial for engaging with the community and ensuring that protection needs are adequately addressed.
