Job Description
Job Posting Organization: The United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) is the lead United Nations agency on international development, established to eradicate poverty and reduce inequality across the globe. Operating in 170 countries and territories, UNDP focuses on developing policies, enhancing leadership skills, fostering partnerships, and building institutional capabilities to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). The organization is dedicated to addressing six core development areas, which include poverty and inequality, governance, resilience, environment, energy, and gender equality. UNDP's overarching mission is to end poverty, promote democratic governance, uphold the rule of law, and establish inclusive institutions. Through advocacy for change, UNDP connects countries to essential knowledge, experiences, and resources to empower individuals to improve their lives.
Job Overview: This position supports the Integrated National Financing Frameworks (INFF) team at the UNDP Sustainable Finance Hub (SFH). The SFH assists over 80 countries in designing and implementing INFFs that align public and private financing with national development priorities and the SDGs. The volunteer's work will directly contribute to internal analysis, peer learning, and global knowledge exchanges regarding the progress and outcomes of country-led financing strategies. This role offers an opportunity to engage in meaningful work that enhances development financing practices on a global scale, while also providing practical experience in policy analysis, SDG financing, and database management. Upon successful completion of the assignment, the volunteer will receive a certificate of appreciation from UNV.
Duties and Responsibilities: The primary responsibility of the volunteer will be to conduct a comprehensive review of the financing strategies of three selected countries. This includes examining how these strategies were formulated, identifying the reforms and priorities they established in areas such as budgeting, taxation, private finance, climate, gender, and local financing, and assessing the early progress made in their implementation. The volunteer will be tasked with reviewing official documents, extracting key data, and contributing to the INFF Facility's internal database to ensure that findings are systematically captured. Additionally, the volunteer will prepare three concise country briefs, each ranging from 3 to 5 pages, and create a short set of presentation slides (2 to 3 slides per country) to facilitate knowledge sharing among UNDP teams.
Required Qualifications: Candidates should possess strong analytical skills, attention to detail, and the ability to synthesize complex information into clear and concise formats. Familiarity with development financing, policy analysis, and the Sustainable Development Goals is highly desirable. The volunteer should also demonstrate effective communication skills, both written and verbal, and be comfortable working independently as well as collaboratively within a team environment. Proficiency in using data management tools and software will be beneficial for this role.
Educational Background: A background in international development, economics, finance, public policy, or a related field is preferred. Candidates should ideally be pursuing or have completed a degree at the undergraduate or graduate level in one of these areas, as this will provide the necessary foundation for understanding the complexities of financing strategies and development goals.
Experience: While prior experience in development financing or policy analysis is advantageous, it is not strictly required. The position is open to individuals who are eager to learn and contribute to the field of international development. Any relevant internships, volunteer work, or academic projects that demonstrate an understanding of financing strategies or the Sustainable Development Goals will be considered valuable.
Languages: Fluency in English is mandatory, as all documentation and communication will be conducted in this language. Knowledge of additional languages, particularly those relevant to the countries being reviewed, would be considered a plus and may enhance the volunteer's ability to conduct thorough analyses.
Additional Notes: This is a volunteer position, and as such, it may not offer financial compensation. However, the role provides an excellent opportunity for professional development and networking within the international development community. The duration of the assignment is not specified, but it is expected to align with the completion of the tasks outlined. The position is remote, allowing for flexibility in work hours and location.
