Job Overview:
The Consultant position is primarily focused on supporting the Immigration and Border Governance (IBG) unit within IOM. The incumbent will be responsible for assisting with logistical, administrative, and financial aspects of various IBG projects, particularly those aimed at enhancing border security" style="border-bottom: 1px dotted #007bff !important;">security capacities and coordination among authorities in Kenya, Uganda, and Tanzania. The role involves liaising with government partners and local authorities to facilitate community engagement, capacity-building trainings, and project evaluations. The Consultant will also be tasked with drafting project-related correspondence and reports, maintaining project documentation, and representing IOM at meetings and conferences. This position requires a proactive approach to project management and the ability to work collaboratively with various stakeholders to achieve project goals.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The Consultant will perform a wide range of duties, including but not limited to: assisting with the logistical, administrative, and financial management of IBG projects; liaising with government partners and local authorities to carry out community engagement and policing activities; conducting capacity-building trainings and project evaluations; drafting project-related correspondence and activity progress reports; facilitating dialogues during community outreach and advocacy activities; maintaining and updating project documentation, including payment requests and purchase requisitions; representing IOM at county-level meetings and conferences; organizing conferences, meetings, and trainings related to the projects; undertaking duty travels as required; and performing any other relevant duties as assigned. The performance of the Consultant will be evaluated based on timely and accurate submission of assignments, compliance with IOM/UN guidelines, effective communication with partners, and efficient project documentation.

Required Qualifications:
To qualify for this position, candidates must possess a Bachelor’s degree in political or social science, international relations, law, or a related field from an accredited institution, along with at least two years of relevant working experience. Alternatively, candidates with a completed high school diploma and four years of relevant professional experience will also be considered. Required qualifications include professional experience in project implementation for international donor-funded projects, experience in drafting project documents and reports, familiarity with migration and border management issues, and understanding of security issues such as violent extremism and terrorism. Candidates should also have experience working with governmental authorities and UN partners, good computer literacy, and the ability to make presentations. Experience in hardship situations and specific experience in Immigration and Border Governance projects will be advantageous.

Educational Background:
Candidates must have a Bachelor’s degree in political or social science, international relations, law, or a related field from an accredited academic institution. Alternatively, a completed high school diploma from an accredited institution with four years of relevant professional experience is acceptable. This educational background is essential to ensure that the Consultant has the necessary theoretical knowledge and analytical skills to effectively contribute to the projects.

Experience:
The position requires candidates to have at least two years of relevant working experience in project implementation, particularly in international donor-funded projects. Candidates should have a proven track record of contributing to the drafting of project documents and reports, as well as familiarity with migration, immigration, and border management issues. Experience working with IOM, UN agencies, or international organizations is mandatory, along with extensive experience in liaising and cooperating with governmental authorities and UN partners. Candidates should also have experience in hardship situations and a good understanding of the Kenyan border context.

Languages:
Fluency in English and Kiswahili is mandatory for this position. Proficiency in these languages is essential for effective communication with stakeholders, including government partners and local communities. Additional language skills may be considered an asset but are not required.
