Job Overview: The Accountant position is crucial for maintaining financial integrity and supporting effective financial management of the STRIDES project in Bangladesh. Reporting directly to the Senior Finance Manager, the Accountant will handle day-to-day financial operations, which include recording, reviewing, and reconciling financial transactions, preparing payment vouchers, ensuring compliance with FHI 360 and donor financial policies, and supporting budget and audit processes. The role requires a strong attention to detail, the ability to manage sensitive financial information, and a commitment to efficiency and transparency in managing donor funds. The Accountant will work closely with the Finance and Operations team, procurement, logistics, and program units to ensure smooth financial operations that align with project goals.
Duties and Responsibilities: The Accountant will assist the Senior Finance Manager in managing daily accounting and financial functions for the STRIDES project. Responsibilities include reviewing and verifying all supporting documentation for payments to ensure completeness and compliance with FHI 360 and USAID regulations. The Accountant will prepare and process bank payments through online banking systems, manage advance payments, and ensure timely liquidation of staff travel advances. Additionally, the role involves maintaining accurate financial records, supporting account reconciliations, ensuring compliance with financial procedures, and assisting in internal reviews and audits. The Accountant will also provide orientation and guidance to new staff on finance-related policies and procedures as needed.
Required Qualifications: Candidates must possess a Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, or business administration. A minimum of 4-5 years of progressively responsible experience in accounting and financial management is required, preferably in USG or other international donor-funded projects. Candidates should have sound knowledge of accounting principles, financial reporting, and internal control systems, along with hands-on experience with accounting software or ERP systems. Strong analytical and numerical skills are essential, as well as a good understanding of Bangladesh’s financial and tax regulations. The ability to manage multiple priorities under tight deadlines with minimal supervision is crucial, along with a high degree of integrity and confidentiality.
Educational Background: A Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, or business administration is mandatory for this position. This educational background provides the foundational knowledge necessary for understanding financial principles, accounting practices, and business operations, which are critical for the role of an Accountant in a complex project environment.
Experience: The position requires a minimum of 4-5 years of progressively responsible experience in accounting and financial management. This experience should preferably be in the context of USG or other international donor-funded projects, which would provide the candidate with relevant knowledge of compliance and reporting requirements specific to such funding sources.
Languages: Fluency in English and Bangla, both written and spoken, is mandatory for this position. Proficiency in these languages is essential for effective communication within the organization and with external stakeholders, ensuring that financial documentation and reporting are accurately conveyed. Additional language skills may be considered an asset but are not required.
