Job Overview:
The Bangladesh Project Director for the STRIDES initiative will lead and direct the implementation of a USAID-funded Global Health Security (GHS) activity aimed at enhancing global health priorities in Bangladesh. The primary objectives of this role include strengthening laboratory and surveillance systems to prevent, detect, and respond to emerging infectious diseases and other public health threats. The Project Director will be responsible for managing all aspects of the activity, including personnel, budget, and technical requirements. This position serves as the main liaison with USAID missions, local government, and other stakeholders, ensuring effective communication and collaboration across sectors. The Project Director will also oversee the development and implementation of annual work plans, monitoring and evaluation activities, and ensure compliance with policies and regulations.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The Project Director will plan, direct, and coordinate the implementation of GHS activities, ensuring that goals and objectives are met within specified timeframes and funding parameters. Responsibilities include establishing work plans, managing technical, financial, and operational staff, and creating a safe and equitable work environment. The Project Director will manage relationships with government counterparts and multisectoral partners, identifying technical assistance needs to fulfill national global health security objectives. They will lead the in-country team, liaise with global leadership, and ensure timely delivery of high-quality deliverables and reports. Additionally, the Project Director will provide guidance and training to staff, support performance management, and oversee onboarding processes for new team members.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates must possess comprehensive knowledge of project management theories, concepts, and practices, with familiarity in international Global Health Security frameworks preferred. Excellent project management skills are essential, including the ability to develop annual work plans and deliverables while overseeing monitoring and evaluation plans. Strong communication skills, both verbal and written, are required, along with the ability to influence and negotiate effectively. Experience in developing partnerships and managing relationships with government and other stakeholders is highly preferred. Demonstrated leadership skills in managing staff within a matrixed organization are also necessary, along with critical thinking and problem-solving abilities.

Educational Background:
A Master’s Degree or its international equivalent in Epidemiology, Microbiology, Infectious Disease, Laboratory Science, Health Systems Strengthening, or a related field from a recognized university is required. A Project Management (PM) Certification or a PhD in Public Health is preferred. Candidates with educational backgrounds in Civil Society, Communication and Social Marketing, Economic Development, Education, Environment, Gender, Health, Nutrition, Research, Technology, and Youth will also be considered.

Experience:
Typically, candidates should have a minimum of 15 years of relevant technical or project management experience, including at least 10 years in leadership roles such as Chief of Party, Country Director, or Project Director. Prior experience in a non-governmental organization (NGO) is preferred, as well as experience implementing USG-funded contracts.

Languages:
Proficiency in English (reading, writing, speaking) is required. Fluency in the host country language is also required, which is essential for effective communication within the local context.

Additional Notes:
The position is based in Dhaka, Bangladesh, and may require travel of 10-25%. The role is contingent upon funding from the Department of State (DOS).
