Job Overview: The Multimedia Producer (Retainer Consultant) will play a crucial role in developing high-quality, inclusive, and accessible communication products that effectively convey complex issues through compelling storytelling and visual design. This position is integral to UN Women’s strategic communication and advocacy objectives, particularly in the realm of gender-responsive climate action. The consultant will be responsible for conceptualizing, designing, and delivering multimedia content that aligns with UN Women’s communication standards and gender equality principles. The role requires a creative approach to producing various forms of multimedia content, including animations, live-action films, mixed-media videos, and illustrations, ensuring that all outputs are coherent, high-quality, and accessible to diverse audiences. The consultant will work closely with the Programme Coordination for Gender and Climate Change and will be supported by other consultants in the team, focusing on contract and payment issues. This position is home-based, allowing for flexibility in work arrangements while still meeting the strategic goals of the organization.
Duties and Responsibilities: The consultant will undertake a variety of responsibilities, including: reviewing background materials relevant to the topic such as reports and branding guidelines; proposing creative concepts and visual treatments that align with key messages and target audiences; developing a distribution and promotion strategy that identifies key platforms for dissemination and recommends tailored formats for each channel; producing multimedia content that includes animations, live-action films, mixed-media videos, and illustrations; integrating narration, subtitles, music, sign-language interpretation, and UN Women branding into all outputs; ensuring that all outputs are accessible and inclusive, adhering to UN Disability-Inclusive Communication Guidelines and UN Women’s branding and ethical communication standards; and monitoring the reach and effectiveness of the content after launch through proposed performance indicators.
Required Qualifications: The position requires a Master’s degree or equivalent in graphic design, visual art, animation, computer graphics, or a related field. Alternatively, a first-level university degree combined with two additional years of qualifying experience may be accepted in lieu of the advanced degree. The candidate must possess a minimum of 5 years of progressively responsible experience in multimedia production, which includes video, photography, animation, and/or motion graphics. Additionally, demonstrated experience in producing gender-responsive and inclusive multimedia content is essential, along with experience in storytelling for development, gender equality, human rights, climate change, or humanitarian themes.
Educational Background: Candidates must hold a Master’s degree or equivalent in graphic design, visual art, animation, computer graphics, or a related field. In cases where a candidate has a first-level university degree, they may still qualify if they have two additional years of relevant experience, making it possible to meet the educational requirements through practical experience.
Experience: The role requires a minimum of 5 years of progressively responsible experience in multimedia production. This experience should encompass various forms of media, including video, photography, animation, and motion graphics. Candidates should also have a proven track record of producing gender-responsive and inclusive multimedia content, as well as experience in storytelling related to development, gender equality, human rights, climate change, or humanitarian themes.
Languages: Fluency in English is required for this position. This proficiency is essential for effective communication and the production of high-quality multimedia content that meets the organization's standards and reaches diverse audiences.
Additional Notes: The consultancy is estimated to require 200 working days within the specified period. The consultant will be engaged under a retainer contract, which allows for direct engagement based on need and availability. This is a home-based consultancy, providing flexibility in work arrangements. Candidates should be prepared to submit samples of their previous work as part of the application process.
