Job Overview:
The Award Management Officer (AMO) plays a crucial role within the Awards Management Team (AMT) at Mercy Corps, focusing on ensuring the successful implementation of high-quality programs across Africa. This position is responsible for managing a portfolio of awards, ensuring compliance with donor requirements, and supporting country teams in their programmatic efforts. The AMO will work closely with various stakeholders to facilitate effective communication and collaboration, ensuring that all aspects of award management are handled efficiently. The role involves overseeing the entire lifecycle of awards, from initiation to closeout, and contributing to strategic business development efforts by identifying new funding opportunities and supporting high-quality design" style="border-bottom: 1px dotted #007bff !important;">program design. The AMO will also serve as a liaison between Mercy Corps' program teams and external stakeholders, ensuring that the organization's interests are represented effectively.

Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Oversee the assigned portfolio of awards, ensuring compliance with donor requirements and monitoring overall award health.
  • Serve as the main point of contact for institutional donor compliance and communication, providing guidance to country teams on narrative reporting and award deliverables.
  • Lead the review and negotiation processes for award agreements and amendments.
  • Prepare and communicate award kick-off and closeout tools, including new award initiation summaries.
  • Provide training and capacity building to country teams on award management and compliance as needed.
  • Review draft proposals for completeness and alignment with donor requirements, managing proposal submissions and timelines.
  • Coordinate with other departments during proposal development and provide administrative support as needed.
  • Maintain internal knowledge management systems for assigned awards and ensure record retention of key documents.

  • Provide dedicated support during emergencies or complex program start-ups as assigned.

Required Qualifications:
The ideal candidate for the Award Management Officer position should possess excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to synthesize complex information clearly for various audiences. They should be detail-oriented and capable of managing multiple priorities under pressure. A strong problem-solving ability is essential, along with proven skills in building collaborative relationships with diverse teams and stakeholders. Organizational skills are crucial for tracking deadlines and ensuring timely task completion. A robust sense of humor and a passion for the organization's mission are highly valued.

Educational Background:
Candidates should have a Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in a relevant field, with a Master’s degree preferred. The educational background should align with the responsibilities of managing awards and compliance in international development contexts.

Experience:
Applicants should have at least 3 years of professional experience in international relief and development, particularly in managing grants and compliance for government-funded awards. Field-based experience in Africa is highly desirable, along with experience in proposal development and monitoring and evaluation efforts. Experience representing an organization to external stakeholders is also preferred.

Languages:
Fluency in English is required for this position, and proficiency in a regionally relevant language is considered a plus. Strong communication skills in multiple languages can enhance the candidate's effectiveness in this role.

This position is a full-time role with a fixed-term contract lasting until the end of June 202
  • The salary range for the UK is between 37,040 - 43,151 GBP, while for the US, it ranges from $53,200 - $63,175, both commensurate with professional experience. The role may require up to 10% travel to support country programs, including travel to potentially insecure locations.
