Job Overview:
The internship-position" style="border-bottom: 1px dotted #007bff !important;">internship position is designed for individuals who are looking to gain practical experience in desktop publishing, design, and content management within the framework of the United Nations. The intern will work under the supervision of the SMU team, contributing to the development of knowledge products and enhancing the visual presentation of materials. This role is particularly suited for those interested in the intersection of design and communication in an international context. The intern will be expected to assist in various tasks that support the overall mission of the OSAA, including the creation of digital assets and improvements to website content, thereby gaining valuable insights into the workings of a major international organization.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The intern will be responsible for a variety of tasks including:
  • Desktop Publishing and Design: Assisting in the formatting and design of OSAA knowledge products such as factsheets, policy briefs, and papers. Supporting the creation of digital assets including flyers, visuals, and graphics. Providing technical assistance in preparing visual assets for OSAA publications.
  • Website Content Support: Assisting in the preparation and organization of multimedia content for the OSAA website. Supporting improvements to the layout and presentation of existing content to enhance user experience.
  • Data Visualization and Technical Support: Assisting in the creation of simple data visualizations for reports and presentations. Providing technical input aimed at improving the visual quality of OSAA materials, ensuring they meet the standards expected by the United Nations.

Required Qualifications:
Applicants must meet one of the following requirements: (a) be enrolled in, or have completed, a graduate school programme (second university degree or equivalent, or higher); (b) be enrolled in, or have completed, the final academic year of a first university degree programme (minimum bachelor’s degree or equivalent). Additionally, candidates should possess knowledge of Adobe Illustrator and InDesign, as well as familiarity with Canva for design purposes.

Educational Background:
Candidates should have a background in design, communications, or a related field, with a minimum of a bachelor’s degree or equivalent. Those who are currently enrolled in a graduate program or have recently completed their studies are also encouraged to apply, as this internship is aimed at providing practical experience to students and recent graduates.

Experience:
While prior professional experience is not mandatory, familiarity with design software and an understanding of content management systems will be beneficial. The internship is an entry-level position, making it suitable for individuals who are eager to learn and develop their skills in a professional setting.

Languages:
Fluency in spoken and written English is required for the internship. Knowledge of an additional official UN language, such as French, is considered an advantage. The working languages of the United Nations Secretariat include English and French, with Arabic, Chinese, Russian, and Spanish also recognized as official languages.
