Job Description
Job Posting Organization:
The position is located within the Business Processes and Systems Support Section (BPSSS) of the Capacity Development and Operational Training Service (CDOTS) under the Department of Operational Support (DOS) of the United Nations. The DOS is responsible for providing comprehensive operational support and advisory services to various operational entities across the UN Secretariat, including field missions and regional commissions. The CDOTS focuses on developing and delivering integrated training and capacity development initiatives, including training in systems like Umoja and Inspira, as well as language training in the six official UN languages. BPSSS plays a crucial role in ensuring that policies are effectively implemented across the Secretariat and reflected in enterprise systems, while also providing necessary training on various business applications. Job Overview:
The Information Systems Assistant will play a vital role in supporting the development and implementation of application systems that enhance the training programs offered by CDOTS. The incumbent will be involved in various stages of system development, including programming, testing, and debugging new application releases and functionalities. This position requires collaboration with users to identify training needs and specifications, as well as participation in business improvement projects aimed at enhancing the services provided to CDOTS clients. The role also involves maintaining e-Learning platforms, preparing technical documentation, and providing ongoing support for deployed training systems. The Information Systems Assistant will be expected to keep abreast of technological developments and propose new acquisitions to improve operational efficiency. Additionally, the incumbent will assist in drafting correspondence and reports related to training application systems development projects, ensuring effective communication and coordination among various organizational units.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The Information Systems Assistant will be responsible for a wide range of duties, including: participating in the development and implementation of new application systems for CDOTS training programs; developing and testing simple computer application systems in accordance with UN standards; serving as a team member in planning and supporting CDOTS projects; assisting in the design and launch of Training Needs Assessment surveys; participating in business improvement initiatives; installing and monitoring computer application systems; preparing technical and user documentation; maintaining e-Learning and knowledge management platforms; providing support for training systems, including version management and data recovery; drafting correspondence and reports; coordinating training application systems development projects; and providing guidance to junior staff. The role may also involve performing other duties as assigned by the Chief of BPSSS/CDOTS/DOS.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates must possess a minimum of seven years of experience in information systems analysis and programming, systems administration, software development, or technical writing. Experience in supporting Learning Management Software is essential, along with familiarity with designing Training Needs Assessment surveys. Desirable qualifications include experience with Microsoft SharePoint, Power Automate, Power Apps, Power BI, and developing and maintaining Drupal-based websites. The role requires a strong understanding of organizational information infrastructure, programming languages, and system maintenance tasks, as well as the ability to apply good judgment and respond to changing requirements effectively.

Educational Background:
A high school diploma or equivalent is required for this position. While no specific job-related qualifications are mentioned, the educational background should ideally support the technical and analytical skills necessary for the role.

Experience:
The position requires a minimum of seven years of relevant experience in fields such as information systems analysis, programming, systems administration, and technical writing. This position is temporarily available for a duration of three months. If the selected candidate is already a staff member of the United Nations Secretariat, the selection will be treated as a temporary assignment. The post is financed by the Support Account for Peacekeeping Operations, and the appointment is subject to the availability of funds and budgetary approval.
