Job Overview: The UN Volunteer will support the UNICEF India Water, Sanitation and Hygiene and Climate Change and Environmental Sustainability (WASH-CCES) Section by engaging in knowledge management and research activities related to UNICEF's WASH and CCES programs. This role involves developing knowledge products for various publications, supporting the organization of knowledge-sharing events, and conducting assessments and studies to evaluate the impact of WASH programs. The volunteer will also assist in monitoring and reporting on program results, contributing to the development of national reports, and strengthening government data systems related to sanitation, water, hygiene, and climate change. The position requires a commitment to UNICEF's mission of promoting child rights and equity, as well as a proactive approach to knowledge sharing and collaboration with various stakeholders.
Duties and Responsibilities: The UN Volunteer will undertake a variety of tasks, including: 1) Knowledge Management and Research: - Develop knowledge-related products for WASH to be submitted to global, regional, and national UNICEF newsletters. - Assist in creating documents on WASH for government and partner publications. - Organize knowledge-sharing events, both online and offline. - Conduct assessments and studies of the WASH program, contributing to the development of rapid assessment tools and questionnaires. 2) Monitoring Reports: - Support the collection and collation of data for reporting results and developing national-level reports. - Generate inputs for annual Result Area Matrix (RAM) and Core Standard Indicators (CSI) reports. - Create processes for monitoring frameworks and innovative methods for field monitoring and reporting. - Assist in data analysis of WASH data and prepare reporting dashboards. 3) Strengthening Government Data Systems: - Review data on sanitation, water, hygiene, and climate change from government WASH program MIS and national surveys to identify key deprivations and gaps. - Develop advocacy notes with the Ministry and state governments on SDG target monitoring and reporting. Additionally, the volunteer is expected to engage in activities that promote volunteerism, contribute articles for UNV publications, assist new UN Volunteers, and encourage local groups to utilize online volunteering services.
Required Qualifications: Candidates should possess strong analytical and research skills, with a demonstrated ability to develop knowledge products and reports. Proficiency in data collection and analysis, as well as experience in monitoring and evaluation, is essential. The ideal candidate should have excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, and be able to work collaboratively in a team environment. A commitment to UNICEF's mission and values, particularly in promoting equity and child rights, is crucial. Familiarity with WASH programs and climate change issues is highly desirable, along with the ability to engage with government and partner organizations effectively.
Educational Background: A bachelor's degree in social sciences, public health, environmental science, or a related field is required. A master's degree in a relevant discipline would be an advantage. Experience: The position requires candidates to have at least 1-2 years of relevant experience in knowledge management, research, or monitoring and evaluation, preferably within the context of international development or humanitarian work. Experience working with UNICEF or similar organizations is a plus. Candidates should demonstrate a track record of successfully contributing to projects that focus on child rights, equity, and sustainable development.
Languages: Fluency in English is mandatory, both written and spoken. Knowledge of Hindi or other local languages would be an asset, as it would facilitate communication with local stakeholders and communities.
Additional Notes: This is a national UN Volunteer assignment based in New Delhi, India. The contract duration is subject to availability of funding, operational necessity, and satisfactory performance, with no expectation of renewal. The UN Volunteer will be responsible for arranging their own housing and living essentials. The position offers a monthly Voluntary Living Allowance (VLA) of INR 64,961.50, along with a one-time entry lump sum payment of USD 400 and relocation costs if applicable. Comprehensive insurance coverage for health, life, and malicious acts is provided, along with annual leave of 2.5 days per month and access to UNV's learning and career development resources.
