Job Overview:
In this full-time, maximum term role, which extends through to the end of June 2026 with potential for extension, the Senior Practitioner will be part of the Bail Support team in Hervey Bay. The primary function of this position is to lead by example and foster strong relationships with key stakeholders to ensure that young people receive the necessary support. The role involves driving the quality planning and implementation of the Bail Support program, coaching and developing colleagues to enhance their skills and competencies, and maintaining operational relationships critical to the program's success. The Senior Practitioner will also coordinate staff caseloads, manage program logistics, and ensure effective monitoring, evaluation, risk management, and child protection measures are in place. Duties and Responsibilities:
The Senior Practitioner will be responsible for a variety of duties including:
  • Driving the planning and implementation of the Bail Support program to ensure high-quality service delivery.
  • Coaching, training, and developing colleagues to enhance their skills and competencies.
  • Developing and maintaining operational relationships with stakeholders and community members.
  • Coordinating staff caseloads and managing program logistics effectively.
  • Monitoring and evaluating program outcomes, ensuring compliance with risk management and child protection policies.
  • Maintaining a personal caseload of clients, providing direct support and intervention as needed.
  • Utilizing trauma-informed practices in all interactions with young people and stakeholders.
  • Engaging in report writing and documentation to track progress and outcomes.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates must demonstrate skills, knowledge, and experience working with culturally diverse young people, including Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander youth. Leadership experience is essential, as the role involves mentoring and coaching colleagues. Additionally, candidates should have experience in trauma-informed practices and the ability to build relationships with program stakeholders and community members. Strong communication skills, particularly in report writing, are also required.

Educational Background:
A relevant qualification in social work, psychology, youth work, or a related field is preferred. Candidates should possess a solid understanding of child rights and youth justice systems, as well as the ability to apply this knowledge in practice.

Experience:
Candidates should have substantial experience working with young people in contact with the justice system, demonstrating a deep understanding of the challenges they face. Experience in a leadership or mentoring role is also highly desirable, as is familiarity with trauma-informed care practices.

Languages:
While no specific languages are mandated, proficiency in English is essential. Additional language skills that reflect the cultural diversity of the community served would be advantageous.

This is a full-time position with a maximum term contract through to the end of June 2026, with the possibility of extension. The role is based in Hervey Bay, Queensland, Australia. The organization offers an award rate salary of $51.00 per hour, plus superannuation and full salary packaging benefits.
