Job Overview:
The Information Technology Assistant - Common Premises plays a crucial role in providing essential technical support across all segments of IT operations within the UNDP Country Office. This position is vital for ensuring the efficient, secure, and cost-effective management of common premises and shared services for co-located UN agencies, funds, and programs. The incumbent will be responsible for a variety of tasks, including the installation, configuration, maintenance, and troubleshooting of network infrastructure, such as cabling and WiFi access points. The role also involves monitoring and maintaining Uninterruptible Power Supply (UPS) systems to ensure continuous power for critical IT equipment. The assistant will provide first-line technical support to users, both in-person and remotely, and will be expected to promote a client-oriented approach while adhering to organizational policies and best practices. The position requires collaboration with IT and facilities teams to support special projects and infrastructure upgrades, ensuring that all technical operations are conducted efficiently and effectively.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The duties and responsibilities of the Information Technology Assistant include:
  • Infrastructure Management: Install, configure, maintain, and troubleshoot network cabling, WiFi access points, and related infrastructure. Assist with network patching, labeling, and port activation to ensure reliable connectivity. Monitor and maintain UPS systems, performing routine checks and basic troubleshooting. Support inventory tracking of IT assets, including cables and WiFi devices. Conduct regular inspections and preventive maintenance on all infrastructure components.
  • Emergency Notification System Services: Support the setup and routine testing of emergency notification systems. Update contact lists and assist with system drills or real-event notifications. Troubleshoot and resolve issues related to emergency notification hardware and software. Document all maintenance activities and incidents.
  • Access Control Devices: Assist in the installation and maintenance of access control devices. Perform basic troubleshooting for access control systems. Monitor system logs and respond to access-related incidents. Support regular testing of access control points.
  • General Responsibilities: Provide first-line technical support for all assigned systems. Maintain clear records of all technical activities and resolutions. Collaborate with IT and facilities teams for special projects. Adhere to organizational policies and safety standards. Assist in monitoring and maintaining CCTV systems. Perform other duties as necessary for the efficient functioning of the office.

Required Qualifications:
The position requires a strong foundation in information technology, with specific qualifications including proficiency in network management, troubleshooting, and technical support. The candidate should possess a solid understanding of IT infrastructure components, including cabling, WiFi systems, and UPS management. Familiarity with emergency notification systems and access control devices is also essential. The ability to document technical activities and maintain clear records is crucial, as is the capacity to work collaboratively with various teams within the organization. A client-oriented approach and adherence to safety standards are necessary for success in this role.

Educational Background:
Candidates for the Information Technology Assistant position should have a relevant educational background in information technology, computer science, or a related field. Experience:

This position is a national UN Volunteer assignment, meaning that the volunteer will be responsible for arranging their own housing and living essentials. National UN Volunteers receive a volunteer living allowance to support a basic, adequate, and safe lifestyle, which varies based on local living costs. The monthly Volunteer Living Allowance (VLA) is set at USD 625.9, along with a well-being differential of USD 187.7
