Job Overview:
The director" style="border-bottom: 1px dotted #007bff !important;">Country Director (CD) serves as the official representative of Solidarités International in Ukraine, responsible for the overall management and strategic direction of the mission. The CD is tasked with proposing and implementing mission strategies that align with the geopolitical and humanitarian context. This role involves monitoring project progress, ensuring compliance with internal and contractual procedures, and mobilizing necessary resources for effective program execution. The CD also coordinates the teams on the ground, ensuring their safety and security" style="border-bottom: 1px dotted #007bff !important;">security while acting as the primary liaison with the headquarters of Solidarités International. The position requires navigating the challenges of a relatively young mission, including transitioning towards reconstruction and development projects, enhancing local partnerships, and engaging with donors to secure funding.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The Country Director's responsibilities include:
  • Developing and proposing mission strategies based on the humanitarian context.
  • Ensuring the smooth running of the mission and compliance with SI's charter.
  • Monitoring project implementation and progress.
  • Mobilizing material and financial resources for program effectiveness.
  • Coordinating and supervising the mission teams, ensuring their safety.
  • Leading the transition towards reconstruction and development projects.
  • Implementing localization strategies by replacing expatriate managers with local staff.
  • Engaging with donors and building strategic partnerships.
  • Improving communication and coordination between field bases and the coordination office. 1
  • Conducting security briefings and ensuring staff well-being in a challenging environment.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates must possess strong management and leadership skills, with the ability to involve others in seeking solutions and responding quickly to challenges. Networking skills, particularly in donor engagement and strategic development, are essential. The role requires excellent delegation, organization, and planning skills, as well as the capacity to mobilize human, financial, and material resources effectively. Additionally, candidates should demonstrate negotiation and diplomacy skills, adaptability, flexibility, and resilience under stress, along with strong communication and external representation abilities.

Educational Background:
A Master's degree in Humanitarian Affairs or a related field is required for this position. Candidates should have a solid understanding of humanitarian principles and practices, as well as the ability to apply this knowledge in a practical context.

Experience:
Candidates should have a minimum of 5 years of experience in the humanitarian sector, with at least 5 years in similar positions. This experience should include managing complex programs in challenging environments and leading teams effectively.

Languages:
Fluency in English is mandatory for this position, while proficiency in French is desirable. The ability to communicate effectively in both languages will enhance the candidate's ability to engage with diverse stakeholders and partners.

  • The role is based in Kyiv, Ukraine, and offers a competitive salary starting from EUR 3,740 gross per month, which includes a base salary and an annual leave allowance. Additionally, a monthly per diem of USD 700 is provided, along with accommodation costs and travel expenses covered by the organization. The position includes a break system, allowing for time off every three months, and an insurance package that covers healthcare expenses and essential vaccinations. Living conditions in Kyiv are favorable, with access to amenities and a vibrant international community.
