The United Nations Volunteers (UNV) programme contributes to peace and development through volunteerism worldwide. They work with partners to integrate qualified, highly motivated and well supported UN Volunteers into development programming and promote the value and global recognition of volunteerism. UNV is administered by the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) and reports to the UNDP/UNFPA/UNOPS Executive Board. Headquartered in Bonn, Germany, UNV has around 150 staff members at headquarters, and 8,500 UN Volunteers deployed in the field.

Job Posting Organization:
Goodness and Mercy Missions (GMM) is an organization established in 2007 with the mission of empowering men, women, youths, and the disadvantaged by providing them with the necessary tools to improve their quality of life. The organization focuses on uplifting the oppressed, the poor, and the less privileged, enabling them to lead lives of meaning and worth. GMM operates various key programs, including women economic empowerment initiatives, child sponsorship, hassle-free education for underprivileged children, computer training, and youth livelihood projects. Since its inception, GMM has utilized the Internet to promote its activities, leveraging platforms such as its website and social media channels to reach a broader audience and enhance its impact.

Job Overview:
The Social Media Volunteer position at Goodness and Mercy Missions is designed to enhance the organization's online presence and effectiveness in communicating its mission and programs. Volunteers will play a crucial role in building and restructuring GMM's social media platforms to better reflect the organization's initiatives and achievements. Although volunteers will not directly manage these platforms, they will provide strategic advice on how to effectively utilize various social media channels, including the organization's website, Facebook, LinkedIn, Instagram, TikTok, and X. The goal is to increase the visibility and impact of GMM's work, particularly in areas such as child sponsorship, women's economic empowerment, vocational training, and environmental protection. Volunteers will be expected to engage with the organization's existing projects and help create content that resonates with the target audience, thereby fostering a greater connection between GMM and the communities it serves.

Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Assess the current state of GMM's social media platforms and identify areas for improvement.
  • Develop a strategic plan for enhancing the organization's online presence.
  • Advise on content creation that highlights GMM's projects and initiatives.
  • Collaborate with GMM staff to gather information and stories that can be shared on social media.
  • Provide recommendations on best practices for engaging with followers and increasing audience interaction.
  • Monitor social media trends and suggest ways to incorporate them into GMM's strategy.
  • Assist in training staff or volunteers on effective social media usage.
  • Evaluate the impact of social media efforts and suggest adjustments as needed.

Required Qualifications:
  • Strong understanding of social media platforms and their functionalities.
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Ability to create engaging content tailored to different audiences.
  • Familiarity with social media analytics tools to measure engagement and impact.
  • Experience in marketing" style="border-bottom: 1px dotted #007bff !important;">digital marketing or social media management is a plus.
  • Passion for social causes and a commitment to GMM's mission.

Educational Background:
A background in communications, marketing, social media, or a related field is preferred. However, candidates with relevant experience and a strong understanding of social media strategies may also be considered regardless of formal education.

Experience:
Previous experience in social media management, digital marketing, or volunteer work with non-profit organizations is highly desirable. Candidates should demonstrate a proactive approach to problem-solving and a willingness to learn and adapt to new challenges.

Languages:
Fluency in English is mandatory. Knowledge of French or local languages spoken in Cameroon would be an advantage, as it would help in reaching a broader audience.

Additional Notes:
This is a volunteer position, and while it may not offer financial compensation, it provides valuable experience in social media strategy and non-profit work. The duration of the volunteer engagement is flexible, and candidates can work remotely or on-site in Cameroon, depending on their availability and preference. GMM is open to recruiting volunteers from both national and international backgrounds.
