Job Overview:
The security" style="border-bottom: 1px dotted #007bff !important;">Security Office Intern will be part of the UNDP Regional advisor" style="border-bottom: 1px dotted #007bff !important;">Security Advisor for Latin America and the Caribbean team. This internship offers a unique opportunity for candidates to deepen their understanding of the UNDP's mandates and operations, particularly in relation to security risk management. Interns will engage in researching, monitoring, and analyzing the security situation in the region, contributing to the safety and security of UNDP personnel and operations. The role involves assisting in the management of open-source information relevant to security, supporting emergency response and crisis management, and participating in the development of security policies and strategies. This position is particularly aimed at promoting female talent in the field of international security, aligning with UNDP's strategy for gender parity.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The intern will assist in various duties under the supervision of the Regional Security Advisor, including:
  • Knowledge Management and Research: Conducting unclassified research on online media and open sources, collating and analyzing data, and drafting advisories.
  • Security Operations Management: Monitoring international security frameworks, adjusting information on threats, supporting emergency response situations, and drafting reports.
  • Security Coordination: Liaising with partner organizations, attending conferences, providing meeting minutes, and supporting team events and training workshops.
  • Additional related duties as assigned, ensuring effective communication and collaboration within the team.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates must demonstrate a strong interest in working within an international organization and possess good analytical skills for data gathering and research. They should be outgoing, goal-oriented, and able to communicate effectively in both team settings and independently. Organizational skills and attention to detail are essential, along with a positive attitude towards feedback and diverse perspectives. Cultural sensitivity and adaptability are also important competencies for this role.

Educational Background:
Candidates must be enrolled in a postgraduate degree program in relevant fields such as Social Sciences, International Relations, or Security Studies. Alternatively, they may be in their final year of a bachelor's degree or have recently graduated. Enrollment in a postgraduate professional traineeship program is also acceptable, provided the internship is part of this program.

Experience:
Experience in data collection and analysis within social sciences is advantageous. Proficiency in writing and communication for diverse audiences is required, along with experience in collaborative team environments, particularly in multicultural settings. Familiarity with Microsoft Office tools and knowledge of GIS systems or programming languages like Python is considered an asset.

Languages:
Strong communication skills in English and Spanish are mandatory, with the ability to write clearly and effectively. Knowledge of French or other UN languages is a plus, enhancing the candidate's profile for this position.

Additional Notes:
Interns are expected to work full-time, with flexibility allowed for educational commitments. The internship duration ranges from a minimum of 6 weeks to a maximum of 6 months. Interns may receive a stipend if not financially supported by any institution. They are responsible for obtaining necessary visas and health insurance, and must provide a medical certificate of good health prior to starting.
