Job Overview: This internship is tailored for students or recent graduates seeking practical experience in Information, Counselling and Legal Assistance (ICLA) activities. The intern will collaborate closely with the ICLA department, supporting various activities aimed at raising awareness about legal and protection issues within both camp and host communities. The role requires a high level of motivation and a passion for aiding vulnerable populations, particularly the Rohingya and local communities, in accessing essential legal information and services. The intern will be expected to contribute to enhancing awareness on civil documentation, dispute resolution, and housing, land, and property (HLP) protection mechanisms, thereby playing a vital role in promoting the rights and stability of individuals in these settings. The intern will also work as part of a team to achieve the objectives of the ICLA program, demonstrating a commitment to the mission and values of NRC.
Duties and Responsibilities: The intern will assist in various tasks including conducting client intake, documentation, and follow-up in accordance with ICLA procedures. They will document ongoing legal cases, capacity-building trainings, referral cases, and information sessions under the guidance of their supervisor. The intern will also contribute to data entry, report drafting, and case file management, ensuring that all information is accurate and kept confidential. They will assist in conducting Key Informant Interviews (KII) and Focus Group Discussions (FGD) for research and protection monitoring, collaborate with ICLA team members during field visits and client assessments, and prepare activity reports summarizing progress and key observations. Additionally, the intern will participate in community outreach efforts, supporting information sessions on ICLA thematic areas, and perform any additional tasks as required by project needs, adapting to dynamic program requirements and field conditions. Adherence to NRC and ICLA standards on ethical service delivery, data confidentiality, and safeguarding principles is essential.
Required Qualifications: Candidates must have recently graduated with a degree in Law (LL.B.), Social Sciences, Development Studies, or a related field from a recognized institution. They should possess effective communication and interpersonal skills, enabling them to engage effectively with project participants and various stakeholders. A strong understanding of protection principles and frameworks is essential, along with demonstrated commitment to human rights and humanitarian principles. Experience in voluntary humanitarian activities is preferred, as well as strong research and analytical skills. Candidates should also have participated in moot court or debating at the university level, enhancing their public speaking and critical thinking abilities. Flexibility and adaptability to changing priorities and tasks are crucial, as well as respect for confidentiality, integrity, and cultural diversity.
Educational Background: The educational requirement for this position is a recent degree in Law (LL.B.), Social Sciences, Development Studies, or a related field from a recognized institution. This educational background is essential to ensure that the intern has the necessary knowledge and skills to effectively support ICLA activities and contribute to the organization's mission.
Experience: The position is designed for recent graduates or students who may have limited professional experience but have engaged in voluntary humanitarian activities or related fields. While prior experience is not mandatory, candidates should demonstrate a commitment to social impact and possess relevant skills that align with the responsibilities of the internship.
Languages: Fluency in English is mandatory, as the application and communication will be conducted in English. Knowledge of Bengali or Rohingya languages would be considered an asset, as it would enhance communication with local communities and stakeholders.
Additional Notes: The internship is based in Ukhiya, Cox’s Bazar, with an assignment duration of 6 months. The intern will be expected to travel approximately 40% of the time. A monthly stipend of 20,000.00 BDT will be provided, and working hours are from 08:30 AM to 05:00 PM. This position is open to Bangladeshi Nationals only.
