Job Overview:
The intern" style="border-bottom: 1px dotted #007bff !important;">Human Resources Intern position within the Global Strategy and Policy Division (GSPD) of OHR is designed for passionate and innovative individuals who are eager to contribute to the UN's mission of making a positive impact in the world. The internship provides a unique opportunity to gain hands-on experience in various aspects of human resources management, including strategic workforce planning, talent acquisition, staff development, and performance management. Interns will work closely with experienced professionals and will be involved in projects that enhance the UN's ability to manage its global workforce effectively. The internship is available for a minimum of three months, with the possibility of extension up to six months, and can be undertaken either full-time or part-time, depending on the intern's availability and the needs of the department.

Duties and Responsibilities:
Interns will be involved in a wide range of duties and responsibilities, including but not limited to:
  • Administrative and Technical Skills: Assisting in the design, updating, and maintenance of internal records and databases, ensuring accuracy and confidentiality; effectively using Office 365 apps and Power BI for presentations and reports.
  • Strategic Communication: Contributing to communication and outreach activities, drafting materials for online engagement, and maintaining web and social media content.
  • Graphic Design: Designing or editing visuals in line with UN branding guidelines and developing skills in visual product creation.
  • Research and Data Analysis: Conducting research on HR policies and best practices, analyzing data for reports, and developing visual solutions for decision-making.
  • Workforce Engagement: Supporting the design and implementation of learning initiatives, coordinating briefings, and engaging talent communities.
  • Meetings and Documentation: Summarizing discussions, drafting reports, and monitoring follow-up actions on HR initiatives.
  • Other Opportunities: Collaborating with teams to enhance project execution and proposing solutions for efficiency.

Required Qualifications:
Applicants must meet one of the following criteria: (a) be enrolled in or have completed a graduate school program (second university degree or equivalent, or higher); (b) be enrolled in or have completed the final academic year of a first university degree program (minimum bachelor’s degree or equivalent). While professional work experience is not required, a field of study closely related to the internship is necessary. Proof of enrollment or completion of the relevant academic program must be provided with the application.

Educational Background:
Candidates must be students in the final year of their first university degree (bachelor or equivalent), or enrolled in or have completed a Master’s or Ph.D. program. The educational background should be relevant to the internship role, ensuring that candidates possess the necessary theoretical knowledge and skills to contribute effectively to the team.

Experience:
While prior professional work experience is not a requirement for this internship, candidates should demonstrate relevant academic experience or coursework that aligns with the responsibilities of the position. This could include internships, volunteer work, or academic projects related to human resources, management, or organizational development.

Languages:
Fluency in spoken and written English is mandatory for this internship. Knowledge of an additional official UN language, such as French, Arabic, Chinese, Russian, or Spanish, is considered an advantage, as English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat.

This internship is unpaid, and interns are responsible for covering their own travel, visa, accommodation, health insurance, and living expenses during the internship period. Interns who are not citizens or permanent residents of the country where the internship is located may need to obtain the appropriate visa and work authorization.
