Job Posting Organization:
The United Nations Office for Outer Space Affairs (UNOOSA) is a specialized agency of the United Nations established to promote international cooperation in the peaceful uses and exploration of outer space. The office plays a crucial role in advancing the utilization of space science and technology for sustainable development. UNOOSA serves as the secretariat for the Committee on the Peaceful Uses of Outer Space (COPUOS), which is the only UN committee dedicated to this purpose. The organization aims to assist member states in establishing legal frameworks for space activities and enhancing the capacity of developing countries to leverage space technology for development. UNOOSA operates globally, engaging with various stakeholders to foster collaboration and knowledge sharing in the field of space applications. The Space4Water Project, initiated in 2018, focuses on promoting the use of space-based technology to improve access to water resources, emphasizing scientific exchange, global outreach, and community building.

Job Overview:
The Space4Water Consultant will work under the supervision of the Chief of the Space Applications Section and the interim Space4Water Project Lead. The consultant's primary responsibilities will include planning and managing content releases for the Space4Water Portal, conducting research on relevant conferences and events, and publishing monthly articles and interviews with various stakeholders. The consultant will also be involved in creating outreach initiatives, developing presentation materials, moderating webinars and meetings, and supporting the organization of events. The role requires a proactive approach to content creation and community management, ensuring that the portal remains a valuable resource for users interested in the intersection of space technology and water management. The consultant will also be responsible for reporting on project progress and stakeholder engagement, contributing to the overall success of the Space4Water initiative.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The consultant's duties will encompass a wide range of responsibilities, including but not limited to: developing a schedule for content releases, researching and planning missions for relevant conferences, publishing articles and interviews on the Space4Water Portal, creating websites and registration forms for events, planning outreach initiatives, developing presentation materials, moderating webinars and stakeholder meetings, and supporting the interim project manager in organizing events. The consultant will also compile and manage information content related to space and water, act as an editorial interface for external information sources, and support community building among registered users. Additionally, the consultant will be responsible for developing statistics for reporting purposes and publishing reports on the portal.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates must possess an advanced university degree (Master's degree or equivalent) in fields such as remote sensing, geographic information systems, geoinformatics, space technologies, environmental engineering, water resource management, hydrology, or a related discipline. Alternatively, a first-level university degree in similar fields combined with two additional years of qualifying experience may be accepted. A minimum of five years of professional experience in areas such as remote sensing, water management, hydrology, climate change, or scientific writing is required. Candidates should demonstrate knowledge in communications and moderation, as well as experience in public speaking and community management.

Educational Background:
The educational background required for this position includes an advanced university degree in relevant fields such as remote sensing, geographic information systems, or environmental engineering. A first-level university degree may be considered if accompanied by additional qualifying experience. The emphasis is on candidates who have a strong academic foundation in disciplines related to space technology and water resource management.

Experience:
The position requires a minimum of five years of professional experience in relevant fields, including remote sensing, water management, and scientific writing. Candidates should have a proven track record of working in environments that require strong communication skills and the ability to engage with diverse audiences. Experience in community management and public speaking is also essential for this role.

Languages:
Fluency in oral and written English is mandatory for this position, as English is one of the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. Knowledge of another United Nations official language, such as French, is considered an advantage and may enhance a candidate's profile.

Additional Notes:
The position is expected to last from December 2025 to December 2026, with the possibility of partial remote work. Candidates should demonstrate proficiency in MS Office and possess excellent communication and presentation skills. Knowledge of remote sensing and geospatial mapping is required, along with familiarity with content management systems.
