UNAOC aims to build bridges between communities and foster mutual respect and harmony. The organization operates globally, focusing on five key pillars: Education, Youth, Migration, Media, and Women as peace mediators. UNAOC serves as a convener and facilitator, bringing together various sectors of society to strengthen intercultural and interreligious dialogue. The organization is headquartered in New York, USA, and plays a crucial role in addressing issues related to human rights and combating discrimination, particularly Islamophobia.

Job Overview:
The Programme Management Officer position at UNAOC involves a range of responsibilities aimed at developing, implementing, and evaluating programs and projects that address human rights issues, particularly focusing on combating Islamophobia. The officer will work closely with the Director of the UNAOC Secretariat and will be expected to monitor and analyze program development, provide technical advice for partnership initiatives, and assist in policy development related to human rights and religious intolerance. The role requires a strong understanding of the broader UN strategies and mandates on tolerance and human rights, as well as the ability to conduct research and present findings on human rights issues from a gender perspective. The officer will also be responsible for preparing reports for the General Assembly and conducting outreach activities, including training workshops and seminars.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The Programme Management Officer will have a comprehensive set of duties, including: participating in the development and evaluation of programs/projects focused on human rights and Islamophobia; providing technical and operational advice for partnership initiatives; assisting in the coordination of reports to the General Assembly; conducting research and analysis on human rights issues; assisting in policy development and evaluations; designing data collection tools and interpreting responses; preparing written outputs such as reports and background papers; providing support for meetings and conferences; conducting outreach activities and training workshops; coordinating budget and funding activities; collecting and analyzing data related to combating Islamophobia; and performing other duties as required.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates must demonstrate professionalism, including knowledge of theories and concepts related to Islamophobia and the ability to evaluate international political situations. They should have the ability to draft policy guidance, conduct data collection, and analyze issues related to human rights and discrimination. Strong communication skills are essential, as is the ability to plan and organize effectively. Candidates should show a commitment to achieving results and be able to manage conflicting priorities efficiently.

Educational Background:
An advanced university degree (Master’s degree or equivalent) in international relations, political science, public administration, or a related field is required. Alternatively, a first-level university degree combined with two additional years of relevant experience may be accepted in lieu of the advanced degree.

Experience:
A minimum of five years of progressively responsible experience in project or program management, human rights, or a related area is required. Additionally, at least two years of experience in providing technical assistance and delivering capacity-building activities through workshops and seminars is necessary. Experience in data analytics, digital innovation, and designing programs focused on human rights and combating discrimination is desirable, as is experience working within the United Nations Common System or a similar multilateral institution.

Languages:
English is required for this position, as it is one of the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. French is also a working language, and knowledge of Arabic is considered desirable. Candidates should refer to the UN Language Framework for specific language skill requirements.

The position is full-time and based in New York City. The role involves significant interaction with various stakeholders, including Member States and civil society organizations. The Programme Management Officer will be expected to engage in outreach activities and contribute to the development of training programs aimed at addressing issues of Islamophobia and promoting human rights.
