Job Overview: The Project Expert will play a crucial role in supporting the effective management and coordination of projects under Sub-Programme 1, which focuses on preventing and countering transnational organized crime as part of the UNODC Programme for Central Asia 2022–202
This position involves providing technical expertise and implementation support for initiatives aimed at addressing illicit drug trafficking and Anti-Money Laundering/Countering the Financing of Terrorism (AML/CFT). The Project Expert will work closely with the Head of the UNODC Programme Office in the Kyrgyz Republic and will be responsible for ensuring that project objectives are met in accordance with approved work plans and budgets. This role requires a proactive approach to project management, monitoring, and reporting, as well as the ability to facilitate various project activities and maintain effective communication with stakeholders.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Project Management and Coordination: Support the achievement of project objectives and day-to-day implementation in line with approved work plans and budgets. Contribute to project monitoring, reporting, and evaluation by tracking progress and preparing progress reports. Assist in drafting terms of reference (TORs) and specifications for consultants and service providers. Provide guidance and support to short-term consultants and implementing partners.
Technical and Organizational Support: Organize and facilitate project activities such as training sessions, workshops, meetings, and public events. Prepare related documentation, including minutes, press releases, and correspondence. Maintain proper filing and documentation of all project activities.
Administrative and Programmatic Assistance: Provide administrative, logistical, and programmatic support to the Sub-Programme 1 team. Contribute to coordination and communication across project stakeholders. Perform other related duties as required.
Required Qualifications: The ideal candidate should possess strong project management skills, with a proven ability to coordinate and implement complex projects effectively. They should demonstrate adaptability and flexibility in their approach to work, along with a commitment to accountability and professionalism. Strong communication skills are essential, as the role involves liaising with various stakeholders and facilitating project activities. The candidate should also exhibit creativity and problem-solving abilities, particularly in challenging environments.
Educational Background: A bachelor's degree in social sciences, international relations, law, or a related field is required. A master's degree in a relevant discipline would be an advantage. The educational background should reflect a strong understanding of the issues related to drug control, crime prevention, and international security.
Experience: Candidates should have at least 2-3 years of relevant work experience in project management, preferably within the context of international development or humanitarian assistance. Experience working with UN agencies or similar organizations is highly desirable. Familiarity with the challenges and dynamics of Central Asia, particularly in relation to drug trafficking and organized crime, will be beneficial.
Languages: Fluency in English is mandatory, while knowledge of Russian or Kyrgyz is considered an asset. Proficiency in additional languages relevant to the region may also be advantageous.

The role is full-time and may require occasional travel within the region.
