Job Overview:
The Logistics Assistant position at UNFPA is a crucial role that supports the logistics operations for UNFPA supplies in South Darfur, specifically at the logistics hub in Nyala. Reporting directly to the Logistics Associate and under the supervision of the UNFPA Supply Chain Management Specialist, the Logistics Assistant will be responsible for various logistics-related activities. This includes updating and implementing the Chad Corridor Concept of Operations, which outlines the logistics flow for importation, movement, storage, and distribution of goods. The role requires close collaboration with the Sudan CO Supply Chain team and engagement with humanitarian partners to optimize the supply chain. The Logistics Assistant will also provide administrative support in maintaining records of shipments and inventory, ensuring efficient operations within the logistics hub.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The Logistics Assistant will perform a range of duties including:
  • Supporting overall logistics for UNFPA supplies under the supervision of the Logistics Associate.
  • Contributing to the update and implementation of the Chad Corridor Concept of Operations for logistics, including importation channels, movement of goods, storage, and distribution networks.
  • Engaging with humanitarian partners in Nyala to optimize UNFPA’s supply chain and coordinating with health sector partners and UN agencies for health supply chain planning.
  • Assisting the Logistics Team in Port Sudan with processing cross-line documentation, including HAC travel permits.
  • Maintaining records of shipments, inventory, inspection reports, and goods receipt notes when receiving shipments in the Nyala warehouse.
  • Supporting the Logistics Team in preparing supplies for transport to other Darfur States and assessing the volume of supplies.
  • Assisting the NIDO Warehouse Manager in organizing UNFPA supplies and overseeing the loading process to ensure all items are accounted for during transport.
  • Performing other duties as assigned by supervisors.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates for the Logistics Assistant position should possess strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and the ability to work collaboratively in a team environment. They should demonstrate accountability, adaptability, creativity, and professionalism. The role requires good judgment and decision-making skills, as well as effective planning and organizing abilities. Candidates should also exhibit self-management skills to thrive in a challenging work environment.

Educational Background:
A minimum of a secondary education is required for the Logistics Assistant position. A diploma or degree in logistics, supply chain management, or a related field is preferred. Additional training or certifications in logistics or humanitarian supply chain management would be advantageous.

Experience:
Candidates should have at least 1-2 years of relevant experience in logistics, supply chain management, or a related field. Experience working in humanitarian settings or with international organizations is highly desirable. Familiarity with logistics operations in challenging environments, particularly in conflict or post-conflict settings, is a plus.

Languages:
Fluency in English is mandatory for this position. Knowledge of Arabic is highly desirable, as it will facilitate communication with local partners and stakeholders. Additional languages may be considered an asset, depending on the operational context.

Additional Notes:
This position is a national UN Volunteer assignment, meaning that the selected candidate will be responsible for arranging their own housing and living essentials. National UN Volunteers are covered under a malicious insurance plan. The role requires a mature level of cultural awareness and the ability to work in potentially hazardous conditions, which may involve physical hardship and limited comfort.
