OHR is part of the Department of Management Strategy, Policy, and Compliance (DMSPC), which oversees the strategic direction of human resources across the UN system.
Job Overview: The internship-position" style="border-bottom: 1px dotted #007bff !important;">internship position within the Global Strategy and Policy Division (GSPD) of OHR is designed for passionate individuals who are eager to contribute to the UN's mission of making a positive impact in the world. Interns will engage in various functions that support the division's goals, including strategic workforce planning, talent acquisition, staff development, and performance management. The internship offers a unique opportunity to gain hands-on experience in a range of areas, from administrative tasks to strategic communication and data analysis. Interns will work under the supervision of experienced staff members, allowing them to learn and grow in a professional environment. The internship is available for a minimum of three months, with the possibility of extension up to six months, depending on departmental needs. It is important to note that this internship is unpaid, and interns are expected to work full-time or part-time, up to five days a week, totaling 35 hours.
Duties and Responsibilities: Interns will be involved in a variety of tasks that contribute to the overall objectives of the GSPD. Responsibilities include: A. Administrative and Technical Skills - Assisting in the design, update, and maintenance of internal records and databases, ensuring accuracy and confidentiality. - Utilizing Office 365 apps, Power BI, and other software to prepare presentations, reports, and communications. B. Strategic Communication, Translation and Adaptation - Contributing to communication and outreach activities, including drafting materials for online engagement and maintaining web content. - Assisting in the planning and dissemination of communication products and providing translations in languages of proficiency. C. Graphic Design and Video Development - Designing or editing visuals in line with UN branding guidelines and developing skills in visual product creation. D. Research and Data Analysis - Conducting research on HR policies and summarizing findings, as well as analyzing data for reports and oversight reviews. E. Workforce Engagement, Talent Management and Organizational Learning - Supporting the design and implementation of learning initiatives and training materials, and engaging with talent communities. F. Meetings and Documentation - Summarizing discussions from meetings and providing support in document editing and tracking. G. Other Opportunities - Collaborating with team members to ensure project execution and proposing solutions to enhance team efficiency.
Required Qualifications: Applicants must meet one of the following criteria: (a) be enrolled in or have completed a graduate school program (second university degree or equivalent, or higher); (b) be enrolled in or have completed the final academic year of a first university degree program (minimum bachelor’s degree or equivalent). While professional work experience is not required, a field of study closely related to the internship is essential. Proof of enrollment or completion of the relevant academic program must be provided with the application.
Educational Background: Candidates must be students in the final year of their first university degree (bachelor or equivalent), or enrolled in or have completed a Master’s or Ph.D. program. The educational background should be relevant to the internship role, ensuring that candidates possess the necessary theoretical knowledge to contribute effectively to the team.
Experience: While prior professional work experience is not a prerequisite for this internship, candidates should demonstrate relevant academic experience or coursework that aligns with the responsibilities of the internship. Languages: Fluency in spoken and written English is mandatory for this internship, as it is one of the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat.
