Job Overview:
As the Country Representative for Plan International in Mexico, you will serve as the legal representative of the organization within the country, overseeing the implementation of the Global Strategy 'Girls Standing Strong' and the humanitarian strategy. Your role will involve driving gender-transformative programs and influencing work at the national level, focusing on the needs of the most vulnerable children, especially girls. You will lead a high-performing country team, ensuring accountability for meeting targets and aligning with the Global Strategy. Your responsibilities will include engaging with national and international donors, representing the organization to the media and government, and advocating for positive change for girls. You will also support localization efforts by strengthening local actors and community engagement in all programs.

Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Lead Plan International’s programmatic and influencing work in Mexico, focusing on gender transformation and the needs of vulnerable children, particularly girls.
  • Develop a country strategy based on thorough assessments of gender power relations and child rights issues, ensuring stakeholder participation.
  • Influence government and civil society stakeholders at the national level.
  • Ensure alignment between the country strategy and resource availability to support development objectives and respond to humanitarian challenges.
  • Lead emergency preparedness analysis and mobilize resources for humanitarian crises.
  • Manage security" style="border-bottom: 1px dotted #007bff !important;">security strategies and ensure adherence to security management standards.
  • Represent Plan International to national and international donor agencies, tracking funding sources and building brand recognition.
  • Develop program work plans and ensure compliance with donor requirements and organizational policies.
  • Influence key decisions of local, national, and international institutions to advance children's rights. 1
  • Manage a high-performing team, ensuring effective programmatic work and compliance with management standards.

Required Qualifications:
  • Relevant university degree in development, social science, business administration, or a related field.
  • Fluent in Spanish and proficient in English, both written and verbal.
  • Proven leadership experience in development and humanitarian programming.
  • Understanding of child rights and gender in development concepts, including relevant international conventions and sustainable development goals.
  • Knowledge of international law" style="border-bottom: 1px dotted #007bff !important;">humanitarian law and coordination, as well as experience in sustainable community development.
  • Proven skills in team development and management, including remote team management.
  • Strong networking and negotiation skills with governmental and non-governmental actors.
  • Excellent diplomatic and communication skills, particularly in influencing decision-makers.

Educational Background:
A relevant university degree in development, social science, business administration, or a related field is essential. An MBA or another advanced degree is desirable but not mandatory.

Experience:
The position requires proven leadership experience in development and humanitarian programming, with a strong understanding of child rights and gender issues. Experience in managing teams and programs in challenging environments is crucial, as well as familiarity with donor compliance and financial management.

Languages:
Fluency in Spanish is mandatory, with good written and verbal communication skills in English being highly desirable.

Additional Notes:
This is a 12-month fixed-term contract with the possibility of extension. The role involves frequent travel within the country and occasional trips outside.
