Job Overview: The Education Officer (Gender) will provide technical support to ensure gender integration across all components of the Education Cannot Wait (ECW) programme. This role is crucial for enhancing gender equality and improving girls' education outcomes in alignment with the Global Learning Outcomes (GLO) result frameworks. The officer will support partners in implementing gender deliverables, lead capacity-building initiatives, and assist in creating strategic partnerships with women-led organizations. The position requires a strong focus on gender-transformative programming approaches in education during emergencies and protracted crises, ensuring that all children, especially girls, have the opportunity to thrive in their educational pursuits.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Programme Management, Monitoring and Delivery of Results: A. Coordinate capacity development of MYRP II partners on gender-transformative programming in education in emergencies and protracted crises. B. Support the creation of strategic partnerships and alliances with women-led organizations. C. Facilitate cross-sectoral collaboration to achieve shared gender equality and empowerment outcomes for girls and women. D. Monitor and evaluate the implementation of gender-targeted interventions and provide feedback for continuous improvement. E. Develop and disseminate knowledge management tools and resources related to gender equality in education. F. Engage with stakeholders to promote awareness and understanding of gender issues in education.
Required Qualifications: A first university degree (master’s or higher) in Gender, Social Sciences, International Development, Public Administration, or another relevant technical field is required. Candidates must have a minimum of two years of relevant professional experience in gender integration in education in emergencies. Experience working with government and partners to promote interventions aimed at increasing girls' learning and reducing the number of girls out of school is essential. Candidates should also demonstrate experience in designing and delivering gender-related programs in emergencies, as well as strong communication and stakeholder relationship skills.
Educational Background: Candidates must possess a first university degree, preferably a master's degree or higher, in fields such as Gender, Social Sciences, International Development, Public Administration, or other relevant technical areas. This educational background is crucial for understanding the complexities of gender issues in educational contexts, particularly in emergencies.
Experience: The position requires a minimum of two years of relevant professional experience in gender integration within education, particularly in emergency settings. Candidates should have experience working with government entities and partners to implement programs aimed at improving girls' education and increasing female representation in teaching roles. Demonstrated experience in capacity-building and developing training materials is also necessary, along with familiarity with the context of Northeastern Nigeria.
Languages: Fluency in English is mandatory, along with a working knowledge of Hausa. Knowledge of another official UN language (such as Arabic, Chinese, French, Russian, or Spanish) or a local language is considered an asset, enhancing communication and outreach efforts in diverse communities.
Additional Notes: This position is a temporary assignment, and UNICEF staff members holding fixed-term, continuing, or permanent appointments may apply. Selected candidates will retain their fixed-term entitlements but will not hold a lien to their abolished post.
