Job Overview: The Technical Officer for Media and Communications will play a crucial role in supporting the design and delivery of high-quality communications both internally and externally. This position is pivotal in creating compelling content that includes photos, videos, publications, and digital media, ensuring that branding and messaging are consistent across all platforms. The officer will work under the supervision of the Grants and Communications Coordinator and will be responsible for enhancing FHI 360’s visibility and that of its partners in Northeast Nigeria. The role involves documenting project activities, engaging with affected populations, and contributing to donor visibility and public engagement efforts.
Duties and Responsibilities: The Technical Officer will be responsible for a variety of tasks including supporting the development of media and communications strategies, producing high-quality visual and written content, designing donor-compliant visibility materials, managing graphic and multimedia content, documenting project activities through field visits, providing publicity support for events, strengthening digital presence, collaborating with partners for consistent messaging, localizing communication products, contributing to capacity building of staff, maintaining media and donor relations, ensuring compliance with ethical standards, and managing an organized media archive. The officer will also perform other duties as assigned by the Grants and Communications Coordinator, particularly during peak activity periods.
Required Qualifications: Candidates must possess strong communications expertise, understanding of humanitarian communications, branding and compliance knowledge, content creation skills, advanced photography and videography skills, proficiency in graphic design and layout, digital engagement capabilities, information management skills, analytical and reporting skills, interpersonal skills, capacity building abilities, and multicultural awareness. The role requires fluency in English, with knowledge of Hausa, Kanuri, and Shuwa being highly desirable. Technical proficiency in various software and tools is also an advantage.
Educational Background: A Bachelor’s degree in Journalism, Communications, Media Studies, Graphic Design, or a related field is required, with 5–7 years of relevant experience. Alternatively, a Master’s degree in a related field with 3–5 years of relevant experience is acceptable. Experience working with NGOs or within humanitarian programs is essential, and familiarity with the Nigerian public health and humanitarian systems is desirable.
Experience: The position requires a significant level of experience, specifically 5–7 years for candidates with a Bachelor’s degree or 3–5 years for those with a Master’s degree. Experience in humanitarian programs and working with NGOs is mandatory, demonstrating the ability to thrive in multicultural environments and effectively engage with diverse stakeholders.
Languages: Fluency in English is mandatory for this position. Knowledge of local languages such as Hausa, Kanuri, and Shuwa is highly desirable and will enhance communication with affected populations and local communities.
