Job Overview:
The UN Physician will play a crucial role in providing health services to UN agency staff and their dependents in South Sudan, which includes managing clinical operations at the UN clinic. This position requires the physician to undertake daily clinical duties, manage emergencies, and stabilize critical patients. The physician will also oversee the Fever Clinic and Isolation ward during outbreaks, ensuring proper follow-up and tracking of positive cases. Additionally, the physician will be responsible for occupational health duties, including medical examinations, immunizations, and health education programs. The role demands a proactive approach to health promotion and the ability to work in a challenging environment, ensuring the health and safety of UN personnel.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The UN Physician's responsibilities include conducting day-to-day clinical duties such as managing walk-in patients and emergencies, overseeing the Fever Clinic and Isolation ward, and ensuring the proper management of clinical operations. The physician will follow up on positive cases and their contacts, conduct occupational health assessments, and provide necessary vaccinations and travel kits. Administrative duties involve advising on medical standards for recruitment and sick leave, participating in business continuity planning, and managing day-to-day operations. The physician will supervise medical staff, ensure the availability of medical supplies, and implement training programs to enhance medical capabilities. Additionally, the physician will organize shift rosters for 24/7 coverage of the clinic and perform other related duties as required.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates must possess a medical degree from a recognized institution and be licensed to practice medicine. They should have a strong understanding of clinical operations and public health, particularly in emergency and outbreak situations. The ideal candidate will demonstrate excellent communication skills, adaptability, and a commitment to continuous learning. Experience in a similar role within a humanitarian or development context is highly desirable, as is familiarity with UN policies and procedures.

Educational Background:
A medical degree from an accredited institution is required, along with relevant certifications in public health or occupational health. Additional training in emergency medicine or infectious diseases would be advantageous, as well as any specialized training related to health education and promotion.

Experience:
The position requires a minimum of three to five years of clinical experience, preferably in a humanitarian or development setting. Experience working in challenging environments, particularly in conflict or post-conflict areas, is essential. Candidates should have a proven track record of managing clinical operations and providing health services in a diverse and multicultural context.

Languages:
Fluency in English is mandatory, as it is the working language of the UN. Knowledge of Arabic or other local languages would be considered an asset, enhancing communication with local staff and communities.

This position is based in South Sudan, which is classified as a non-family duty station. Candidates should be prepared for living conditions that may include limited access to retail outlets and basic services.
