Job Overview: The position involves directing the formulation, design, coordination, and technical support for the conditioning process of nine Community Seed Banks as part of Project 00111194, which aims to strengthen the climate resilience of rural communities and ecosystems in Ahuachapán Sur, El Salvador. The Community Seed Banks will be located in the districts of San Francisco Menéndez and Guaymango (Ahuachapán Sur Municipality), and in the district of Tacuba (Ahuachapán Norte Municipality), all within the Ahuachapán Department. The contractor will be responsible for ensuring that the seed banks are effectively established and managed, contributing to the overall goals of the project. This role requires a deep understanding of agricultural practices, community engagement, and climate resilience strategies.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Lead the design and implementation of the technical framework for the establishment of the Community Seed Banks.
Coordinate with local stakeholders, including community members, local governments, and agricultural experts, to ensure the successful implementation of the project.
Provide technical guidance and support throughout the process of conditioning the seed banks.
Monitor and evaluate the progress of the seed banks, ensuring they meet the project objectives and standards.
Prepare and submit regular reports on the status of the seed banks and the overall project to UNDP and other stakeholders.
Facilitate training sessions for community members on the management and operation of the seed banks.
Ensure compliance with UNDP procurement and operational guidelines throughout the project lifecycle.
Address any challenges or issues that arise during the implementation phase, proposing solutions as necessary.
Strong understanding of climate resilience practices and sustainable agricultural methods.
Excellent project management skills, with the ability to coordinate multiple stakeholders and tasks effectively.
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
Ability to work independently and as part of a team, demonstrating strong interpersonal skills.
Proficiency in using project management tools and software.
Educational Background: A bachelor's degree in agriculture, environmental science, community development, or a related field is required. A master's degree in a relevant discipline is preferred and may be considered an asset.
Experience: A minimum of 5 years of relevant professional experience in agricultural development, community engagement, or project management is required. Experience working with international organizations, particularly in the context of climate resilience and sustainable development, is highly desirable.
Languages: Fluency in Spanish is mandatory, as the position requires communication with local communities and stakeholders. Proficiency in English is considered an asset, as it may be necessary for reporting and communication with UNDP and other international partners.
Additional Notes: The contract duration is a maximum of 260 days. This position is classified as an Individual Contractor role, which means it is not a full-time employment position but rather a consultancy arrangement. The contractor will be expected to work on-site in El Salvador, specifically in the Ahuachapán region, and must be available to engage with local communities and stakeholders directly.
