Job Overview: The Protection Officer will play a crucial role in overseeing the implementation of protection activities aimed at assisting displacement-affected individuals and communities. This position requires a strong commitment to adhering to the organization's policies and procedures while ensuring that protection projects effectively target beneficiaries in need. The officer will be responsible for managing a team of Protection Technical Assistants and field teams, ensuring that protection monitoring, case management, and psychosocial-support" style="border-bottom: 1px dotted #007bff !important;">psychosocial support services are delivered with quality and accountability. The role also involves conducting community awareness sessions, providing legal counseling, and facilitating capacity-building initiatives for local authorities and humanitarian partners. The Protection Officer will be expected to travel frequently to the field to monitor activities and engage with communities directly.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Supervision (30%): Oversee the daily implementation of protection activities, ensuring compliance with the Protection strategy and humanitarian standards. Manage and supervise Protection Technical Assistants and field teams, providing guidance and performance oversight.
Legal Counseling and Assistance (40%): Support Protection TAs in identifying individuals with specific needs, conduct community awareness sessions, provide individual protection counseling, and ensure timely case management. Conduct protection assessments and data collection to identify risks and gaps in assistance.
Staff Capacity Building (10%): Provide on-the-job training to Protection TAs to enhance their skills and effectiveness in delivering protection services.
Integrated Programming (10%): Collaborate with other core competencies to create integrated programming opportunities, supervise data entries in electronic databases, and report on advocacy and protection needs from the field. Maintain networks with governmental and non-governmental organizations for referrals and share progress reports with the line manager.
Required Qualifications: The ideal candidate should possess a university degree in law or a related field, with a thorough understanding of Ethiopian law. A minimum of 3 years of experience in project management, particularly in a protection or legal assistance role, is required. The candidate should have documented results related to the responsibilities of the position and experience working in complex and volatile contexts. Good knowledge of English is preferred, along with advanced computer skills in Microsoft Office applications.
Educational Background: Candidates must have a university degree in law or a related field. This educational background is essential for understanding the legal frameworks and protection issues relevant to the role.
Experience: Candidates should have at least 3 years of experience in project management, specifically in a protection or legal assistance implementation position. Experience in humanitarian or recovery contexts is highly desirable, along with a proven track record of supervising staff and ensuring compliance with internal policies and procedures. Previous experience as a Legal Project Officer is also beneficial.
Languages: Good knowledge of English is preferred. Proficiency in local languages may be advantageous for effective communication with beneficiaries and community members.
Additional Notes: The position is based in Humera, Ethiopia, with frequent travel to field locations.
