Job Overview: The Nursing Consultant position within the Migration Health Department (MHD) involves performing essential nursing activities in the Migration Health Assessment Clinic (MHAC). This role is crucial for fulfilling the technical requirements set by resettlement countries, which include conducting medical examinations, collecting bodily samples, administering vaccinations, and managing tuberculosis (TB) treatment. The consultant will also provide vital information to migrants and refugees regarding the health assessment process and necessary treatments. The position requires a commitment to maintaining high standards of care and ensuring that all health assessments are completed efficiently and accurately, with a focus on patient safety and infection control. The consultant will also be involved in administrative tasks, including preparing reports and supporting mobile missions as needed.
Duties and Responsibilities: The Nursing Consultant will be responsible for a variety of duties, including but not limited to: performing daily nursing activities in the MHAC, conducting medical examinations such as checking vital signs, weight, height, and visual acuity; collecting blood, urine, or sputum samples as required; conducting imaging and laboratory testing; administering vaccinations; managing TB treatment; and providing referrals as necessary. The consultant will ensure proper identification and follow-up of migrants by taking comprehensive histories and maintaining accurate biodata records. They will also be responsible for verifying the transportation of samples to laboratories, maintaining the MHAC pharmacy and medical kits, providing pre- and post-counseling on TB and HIV, and preparing administrative reports. Additionally, the consultant may perform medical escort duties to ensure continuity of care for migrants throughout their journey.
Required Qualifications: Candidates must possess a Bachelor’s degree or Diploma in Nursing from an accredited institution in Ukraine, along with a valid nursing license to practice in the country. The position requires excellent technical skills, particularly in phlebotomy, as well as a solid understanding of clinical nursing principles. Candidates should demonstrate a strong bedside manner, knowledge of preventive care and disease control, and experience in patient safety and infection prevention. The ability to communicate effectively with diverse populations and provide compassionate care is essential.
Educational Background: A Bachelor’s degree or Diploma in Nursing from an accredited academic institution is required for this position. The educational background should include comprehensive training in nursing practices, clinical skills, and patient care, ensuring that the consultant is well-prepared to handle the responsibilities of the role.
Experience: Candidates should have relevant experience in clinical nursing, particularly in settings that involve health assessments and patient care. Experience in working with migrants or in a multicultural environment is highly desirable, as it will enhance the consultant's ability to provide effective care and support to diverse populations. Familiarity with health assessment protocols and procedures is also beneficial.

Additional Notes: The position may involve travel as required, and any offer made to the candidate is subject to funding confirmation. The appointment will be contingent upon certification of medical fitness, verification of residency, and necessary government authorizations. IOM provides coverage for occupational accidents and illnesses under its Compensation Plan, but consultants are responsible for their own medical insurance for non-occupational issues.
