The intern will engage in various tasks that include conducting targeted data analysis related to baselines, milestones, and results from UN Women’s global offices. The role emphasizes the importance of data visualization, knowledge management, and effective communication of data-driven insights. Interns will gain hands-on experience in strategic planning and monitoring, contributing to the development of AI-powered tools and innovative digital solutions that enhance data collection and reporting processes. This position is designed to provide exposure to the UN Women organization, networking opportunities, and participation in workshops aimed at broader learning and skill development in data analytics and storytelling for global development.
Duties and Responsibilities: The intern will be responsible for a variety of tasks, including:
Conducting data analysis and visualization using tools such as Excel and Stata to identify trends and insights from financial and performance data.
Designing and updating Power BI dashboards that showcase UN Women’s results and performance against its Strategic Plan.
Supporting the development of AI-powered tools to improve data collection and monitoring processes.
Collaborating with colleagues to create visual presentations and briefs for technical teams and senior management.
Maintaining and updating data-related intranet pages to ensure accessibility and relevance.
Creating engaging results stories and data visualizations for external reports and digital platforms.
Participating in innovation discussions and contributing ideas on data and technology solutions.
Required Qualifications: Candidates must possess strong analytical and administrative skills, excellent writing and communication abilities, and a proactive attitude. They should be able to translate complex topics into simple language for a general audience and demonstrate effective interpersonal skills. Familiarity with gender issues and the UN system is advantageous. The role requires strong organizational skills and the ability to multitask, as well as proficiency in IT skills, particularly in web content management systems, Excel, Power BI, and PowerPoint development.
Educational Background: Candidates must have university studies in relevant disciplines such as data science, statistics, international development, or data communications. They should meet one of the following criteria: be enrolled in a graduate program, be in the final year of a bachelor's degree, have graduated within the last two years, or be enrolled in a postgraduate professional traineeship program that requires the internship.
Experience: The position is designed for individuals who may not have extensive professional experience but are eager to learn and gain practical skills in data analysis and monitoring within the UN system. Previous internships or academic projects related to data analysis or international development may be beneficial but are not strictly required.
Languages: Excellent communication skills in English, both written and oral, are mandatory. A working knowledge of another UN language is considered an advantage, enhancing the candidate's ability to engage with diverse stakeholders within the UN framework.
Additional Notes: The internship is unpaid, but interns who do not receive financial support from other sources will receive a stipend to help cover basic living costs.
