Job Overview: The consultancy position is focused on the development of a report that follows up on the outcomes of the special session of the General Assembly on children, as mandated by General Assembly resolution S-27/
The report is to be submitted biennially, with the next submission due in 202
The consultant will work closely with the Chief of the Strategic Planning and Corporate Analysis (SPCA) team and the Programme Specialist to draft a comprehensive report that synthesizes inputs from various stakeholders, including UN entities and civil society. The consultant's role will involve not only drafting but also coordinating with multiple divisions to ensure that the report reflects the necessary data and insights regarding children's rights and the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). The consultant will be responsible for creating a timeline, stakeholder mapping, and ensuring that the report meets the required standards and deadlines.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Support the launch of the report development process, including creating a report outline, establishing a timeline, and mapping stakeholders involved in the process. This includes developing an overall timeline with milestones and stakeholder mapping by 24 November 202
Synthesize inputs from contributing divisions and partners, including member states and relevant UN entities, to develop a first draft of the report, which is due for review and comment by 15 January 202
Address comments received from the review process and produce the final edited version of the report by 4 March 202
The consultant will also be responsible for liaising with various stakeholders to gather necessary information and insights to inform the report's content.
Required Qualifications: The ideal candidate should possess a university degree in Social Science, Public Policy, Economics, Political Science, or a related field. Additionally, the candidate must have at least 5 years of experience in report drafting and program coordination within the development sector. Experience working within the UN system or similar international organizations is considered an asset. The candidate should demonstrate strong analytical skills, the ability to synthesize complex information, and excellent communication skills.
Educational Background: Candidates must hold a university degree in a relevant field such as Social Science, Public Policy, Economics, Political Science, or a related discipline. This educational background is essential for understanding the complexities of children's rights and the Sustainable Development Goals, as well as for effectively engaging with various stakeholders involved in the report development process.
Experience: A minimum of 5 years of professional experience in report drafting and program coordination in the development field is required. This experience should ideally include work within the UN system or equivalent international organizations, which would provide the candidate with a solid understanding of the operational and strategic frameworks relevant to UNICEF's mission and objectives.
Languages: Fluency in English, both written and spoken, is mandatory for this position. The ability to communicate effectively in additional languages would be considered a valuable asset, enhancing the consultant's ability to engage with diverse stakeholders and contribute to the report's development.
