Job Overview: The position of Junior Consultant in the project "Applied Water Resource Management in the Chad Basin" involves supporting the project management team in various capacities. The Chad Basin is a significant African watershed that supports approximately 45 million people and is crucial for the economic and ecological stability of the surrounding countries. The project aims to assist the Chad Commission in sustainable water resource management, focusing on data and information management, institutional development, and local climate adaptation measures. The role requires collaboration with various GIZ units and stakeholders, contributing to the project's objectives while addressing the challenges posed by overuse, pollution, and security" style="border-bottom: 1px dotted #007bff !important;">security issues in the fragile ecosystem of the Chad Basin.
Duties and Responsibilities: The Junior Consultant will be responsible for supporting the project management team in several key areas: assisting in project management and providing advice on cross-border water resource management, considering climate change and conflict prevention; preparing for and following up on meetings; collaborating with the West Africa 1 and Central Africa organizational unit and other involved GIZ units; aiding in the initiation and implementation of EU co-financing; contributing to professional public relations efforts and managing information and knowledge related to the project; participating in project monitoring planning and supporting annual project reporting to donors in coordination with the project leader; sharing responsibility for implementing cross-cutting themes such as gender and conflict sensitivity; and, as needed, taking on advisory tasks in cooperation with the Chad Basin Commission and coordinating with relevant project stakeholders.
Required Qualifications: Candidates must possess a completed university degree in political science, international relations, or peace and conflict studies. They should have initial work experience in project management and familiarity with the political environment of the German federal government. Good knowledge of GIZ's procedures and processes, including contract management and public relations, is essential. Candidates should also have initial international experience in a fragile development context, with knowledge of the Chad region and its specific challenges related to natural resource management, climate change, and conflict. Proficiency in German or English, along with fluent skills in the other language and negotiation-level proficiency in French, is required.
Educational Background: A completed university degree in a relevant field such as political science, international relations, or peace and conflict studies is mandatory for this position. This educational background provides the necessary theoretical foundation and analytical skills required for effective project management and engagement in international development contexts.
Experience: The position requires initial work experience in project management, which can be gained through internships, volunteer work, or previous employment. Candidates should also have some exposure to the political landscape of the German federal government, which will aid in understanding the operational context of GIZ and its projects.
Languages: Fluency in German or English is mandatory, with the ability to negotiate in the other language. Additional Notes: The position is suitable for full-time or part-time employment, with a commitment to regular business travel expected. There is an option for contract extension based on project needs. Regular business trips to Chad, exceeding three months per employment year, will be required.
