Job Overview: The UN Volunteer (UNV) Youth Officer will play a pivotal role in enhancing UNFPA's youth program in Lebanon. This position involves actively supporting existing youth networks and developing new youth programming initiatives that bridge the humanitarian and development nexus. The UNV will be responsible for fostering youth engagement, capacity building, and advocacy efforts, empowering young people to become active agents of change in their communities. The role requires a proactive approach to addressing both immediate needs and long-term sustainable development goals, ensuring that youth interventions are effective and impactful.
Duties and Responsibilities: The UNV Youth Officer will have a comprehensive set of responsibilities, including:
Programme Design and Management: Conducting field assessments to identify needs and gaps for young women in Lebanon, developing strategies for youth engagement, and integrating Gender-Based Violence (GBV) and Sexual and Reproductive Health (SRH) issues into youth assessments. Providing programmatic support for youth activities, including planning, coordinating, implementing, monitoring, and reporting on UNFPA-supported initiatives. Conducting field visits to monitor project implementation and identify challenges, while communicating with Implementing Partners to build capacity on UNFPA's youth and gender approach.
Monitoring and Evaluation: Collaborating with the M&E Analyst for target setting and ensuring accurate reporting on results, contributing to thematic surveys and assessments, and participating in UNFPA Country Programme planning and evaluation processes.
Coordination and Partnership: Supporting the coordination of the United Nations Youth Task Force, co-chairing the Joint Programme on Child Marriage Steering Committee, and providing technical support for the United Nations Joint Programme on Youth. Representing UNFPA in relevant sectors and proposing innovative partnerships for youth development.
Resource Mobilization: Assisting in resource mobilization for youth-related projects, consolidating donor intelligence, identifying funding opportunities, and contributing to concept notes and proposals for youth projects.
Required Qualifications: Candidates must possess strong competencies in accountability, adaptability, creativity, judgment, decision-making, planning, organizing, professionalism, and self-management. The ideal candidate should demonstrate a commitment to the values of the United Nations and have the ability to work effectively in a multicultural environment. Strong communication and interpersonal skills are essential, as well as the ability to engage with various stakeholders, including government entities and civil society organizations.
Educational Background: A relevant educational background is required, typically including a degree in social sciences, international development, public health, or a related field. Advanced degrees may be preferred, particularly for roles involving complex program management and strategic planning.
Experience: Candidates should have a minimum of 2-3 years of experience in youth programming, project management, or related fields. Experience working in humanitarian settings or with youth-focused organizations is highly desirable. Familiarity with UNFPA's mission and objectives, as well as knowledge of the socio-political context in Lebanon, will be advantageous.
Languages: Fluency in Arabic and English is mandatory. Knowledge of French or other languages may be considered an asset, enhancing communication with diverse stakeholders and partners.
Additional Notes: This is a national UN Volunteer assignment, and the UN Volunteer will be responsible for arranging their own housing and living essentials. The position is based in the UN Resident Coordinator’s Office, and national UN Volunteers are part of the malicious insurance plan. The benefits package includes a monthly Volunteer Living Allowance (VLA) of USD 1,606.56, annual and learning leaves, medical and life insurance, and free access to various learning platforms. National UN Volunteers are expected to be culturally sensitive and adapt to the prevailing culture and traditions.
