Job Overview: The Project Manager will oversee the 'Integrating Climate Change Adaptation into Sustainable Development Pathways of Bangladesh' project, which aims to enhance national resilience through localized adaptation planning in five selected Agro-Ecological Zones (AEZs) vulnerable to climate change. The Project Manager will be responsible for the overall management of the project, ensuring that it meets its objectives and delivers expected results in line with the approved Project Document. This role involves strategic leadership in project planning, implementation, monitoring, and evaluation, as well as collaboration with various stakeholders, including government agencies, UNDP, and other partners. The Project Manager will also be tasked with mobilizing project inputs, supervising project staff, and maintaining effective communication with all involved parties.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Result-based Project Management: Provide oversight to ensure project implementation is on track, manage project finances, and achieve quarterly and annual delivery targets. Prepare annual work plans, budgets, and reports, and manage risks and issues. Supervise the project team, set goals, and evaluate performance. Manage experts and service providers, and ensure timely submission of required reports.
Partnership and Stakeholder Management: Identify stakeholders and partners, prepare and implement a stakeholder engagement strategy, and coordinate with relevant partners for effective project execution.
Evidence-based Advocacy: Analyze project results and provide reporting on progress, develop capacity-building activities for government counterparts, and ensure high standards in technical and advisory inputs.
Knowledge Management: Contribute to the development of knowledge products, manage communication materials, and share project results and lessons learned.
Perform other duties as necessary for the efficient functioning of the office and organization.
Required Qualifications: Candidates must possess an advanced university degree (Master’s degree or equivalent) in Environmental Sciences, Natural Resource Management, Climate Change, Development Studies, or a related field. Alternatively, a first-level university degree (Bachelor’s degree) combined with an additional 2 years of qualifying experience will be considered. Candidates should have a minimum of 2 years of relevant work experience in natural resource management, climate change, or environmental management, or 4 years with a Bachelor’s degree. Experience in project/programme management, particularly in climate change-related planning and policymaking, is essential. Familiarity with national climate change policies and experience working with government and international organizations is highly desirable.
Educational Background: An advanced university degree (Master’s degree or equivalent) in relevant fields such as Environmental Sciences, Natural Resource Management, Climate Change, or Development Studies is required. A Bachelor’s degree in these areas, combined with additional qualifying experience, will also be considered. Candidates should have a strong academic background that supports their understanding of climate change and environmental management.
Experience: The position requires a minimum of 2 years of relevant work experience for candidates with a Master’s degree, or 4 years for those with a Bachelor’s degree. Candidates should have demonstrable experience in project/programme management, particularly in the context of climate change and environmental management. Experience working with bilateral or multilateral organizations and government agencies in climate change-related planning and policymaking is essential.
Languages: Fluency in English and Bangla is required for this position. Proficiency in additional languages may be considered an advantage, but English and Bangla are mandatory for effective communication within the project and with stakeholders.
Additional Notes: The position is full-time and based in Dhaka, Bangladesh. The Project Manager will work closely with the National ProjectDirector and other stakeholders to ensure the successful implementation of the project.
