Job Overview:
The Protection Assistant position within IOM's protection unit is designed to support the implementation of protection activities aimed at promoting and upholding the rights of migrants, internally displaced persons (IDPs), and other vulnerable communities. The role involves working closely with technical teams to ensure that protection activities are executed effectively and in compliance with IOM's internal processes. The Protection Assistant will assist in drafting partnership agreements, managing administrative tasks, and providing logistical support for capacity-building activities and community initiatives. This position is crucial for ensuring that the protection needs of migrants and vulnerable populations are met, and it requires a proactive approach to monitoring and reporting on program activities and outcomes. The successful candidate will play a key role in facilitating communication and collaboration among various stakeholders, including governmental authorities and non-governmental organizations, to enhance the effectiveness of protection interventions.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The Protection Assistant will be responsible for a variety of tasks, including but not limited to: assisting in the implementation and monitoring of protection activities; ensuring compliance with IOM internal processes; drafting and managing partnership agreements; submitting and following up on purchase requests; compiling and summarizing information/data on program topics; providing administrative and logistical support for capacity-building activities and workshops; drafting status reports and identifying shortfalls in delivery; managing routine correspondence such as emails, reports, and meeting minutes; and performing other related duties as assigned. The role requires a detail-oriented individual who can manage multiple tasks simultaneously and work effectively under time constraints.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates must possess a school diploma with four years of relevant experience or a Bachelor’s degree in political or social sciences, International Relations, Development Studies, Migration Studies, Human Rights, Law, or related fields from an accredited academic institution with two years of relevant professional experience. Accredited universities are those listed in the UNESCO World Higher Education Database. Additionally, candidates should have experience in liaising with governmental authorities, national/international institutions, and NGOs, as well as experience working with migrants, refugees, and other vulnerable groups. Knowledge of the Lebanese migration context and the challenges faced by migrants is essential.

Educational Background:
The educational background required for this position includes a school diploma with four years of relevant experience or a Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field such as political or social sciences, International Relations, Development Studies, Migration Studies, Human Rights, Law, or related areas. The degree must be from an accredited institution recognized by the UNESCO World Higher Education Database, ensuring that candidates have a solid foundation in the principles and practices related to migration and human rights.

Experience:
Candidates should have a minimum of two years of relevant professional experience if they hold a Bachelor’s degree, or four years of relevant experience if they possess a school diploma. Experience in working with governmental authorities, international organizations, and NGOs is highly valued. Familiarity with the challenges faced by migrants and the protection gaps in the Lebanese context will be considered an advantage. Prior work experience in a multi-cultural setting, particularly with international humanitarian organizations, is also beneficial.

Languages:
Proficiency in English and Arabic is required for this position. Candidates will be evaluated on their language skills during the selection process, which may include written and/or oral assessments. While English and Arabic are mandatory, knowledge of additional languages such as French or Spanish, which are also official languages of IOM, may be considered an asset.

Additional Notes:
This position is subject to local recruitment, and only candidates holding a valid residence and work permit for Lebanon will be eligible for consideration. The appointment will be contingent upon medical fitness certification, verification of residency, and necessary government authorizations. The selection process may be used to fill similar positions in various duty stations, and recommended candidates will remain eligible for appointment in similar roles for a period of 24 months.
