Job Description
Job Posting Organization: Enabling Rural Opportunity Network (ERONet) is a women-centered, community-based organization located in Northern Uganda, near the South Sudan border. Established in 2001, ERONet focuses on empowering marginalized communities through inclusive and sustainable programs that advance education, health, livelihoods, and resilience. The organization specifically aims to enhance access to quality primary and secondary education for adolescent girls, adolescent mothers, and school dropouts. ERONet rehabilitates school facilities, provides bursaries, promotes life skills and vocational training, and actively challenges harmful gender norms that limit educational opportunities for girls. Through these initiatives, ERONet is dedicated to improving school retention rates, building safe learning environments, and creating self-employment pathways for vulnerable adolescent girls and young mothers. The organization is committed to addressing the barriers faced by these groups, particularly in the context of poverty and gender-based discrimination, and strives to make a significant impact on their educational and empowerment outcomes.
Job Overview: The Online FundraisingVolunteer position at ERONet is designed to support the organization’s resource mobilization efforts specifically for education programs. The volunteer will play a crucial role in identifying donor opportunities and developing compelling proposals that align with ERONet’s mission and strategic goals. This position is vital for enhancing the organization’s fundraising and communication strategies, which are essential for expanding ERONet’s reach and impact on girls’ education and empowerment. The volunteer will be expected to engage in research to identify potential education-sector donors, draft and edit project proposals and concept notes, and ensure that all proposals reflect ERONet’s community priorities. Additionally, the volunteer will provide strategic guidance on donor engagement and reporting best practices, contributing to the overall effectiveness of ERONet’s fundraising efforts. This role directly supports the Sustainable Development Goal 4 (SDG 4): Quality Education, emphasizing the importance of education in achieving broader development objectives.
Duties and Responsibilities: The key responsibilities of the Online Fundraising Volunteer include:
Researching and identifying grant opportunities and potential donors within the education sector.
Drafting and editing high-quality project proposals and concept notes that align with ERONet’s mission and strategic objectives.
Ensuring that all proposals are tailored to meet the needs and priorities of the community served by ERONet.
Supporting internal coordination and information sharing among ERONet teams to enhance collaboration and effectiveness in fundraising efforts.
Providing strategic guidance on best practices for donor engagement and reporting, ensuring that ERONet maintains strong relationships with its funding partners.
Participating in periodic virtual meetings to collaborate with team members and provide updates on progress and challenges encountered in fundraising activities.
Required Qualifications: The ideal candidate for the Online Fundraising Volunteer position should possess the following qualifications:
Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to draft compelling proposals and reports.
A background in fundraising, grant writing, or a related field is highly desirable.
Familiarity with the education sector and understanding of the challenges faced by marginalized communities, particularly adolescent girls and young mothers.
Excellent research skills to identify potential funding opportunities and donor prospects.
Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a team environment.
Strong organizational skills and attention to detail to ensure high-quality outputs in proposal development.
Educational Background: Candidates applying for the Online Fundraising Volunteer position should ideally have a degree in a relevant field such as communications, international development, social sciences, or a related discipline. While a formal educational background is important, practical experience in fundraising or proposal writing may also be considered as a substitute for formal qualifications.
Experience: The position requires candidates to have some level of experience in fundraising, grant writing, or related activities. While specific years of experience may not be mandated, any prior involvement in similar roles or projects will be advantageous. The volunteer should demonstrate a proactive approach to learning and adapting to the needs of the organization and its fundraising goals.
Languages: Proficiency in English is mandatory for this position, as all proposals and communications will be conducted in English. Additional language skills, particularly in local languages spoken in Northern Uganda, would be considered a valuable asset, enhancing the volunteer's ability to connect with the community and understand their needs better.
Additional Notes: This is a volunteer position, and as such, it may not offer financial compensation. However, it provides an excellent opportunity for individuals looking to gain experience in the nonprofit sector, particularly in fundraising and proposal development. The role may require a commitment of several hours per week, and the volunteer will have the flexibility to work remotely while participating in virtual meetings with the ERONet team. The organization values diversity and encourages individuals from various backgrounds to apply.
