Job Overview:
The internship program within the Forest Program in the Democratic Republic of the Congo (RDC) and Cameroon seeks two academic or professional interns to support its work on community-managed forests in the Congo Basin. The primary mission of the interns will be to assist in socio-economic research and analysis, contributing to broader programmatic work. This includes supporting initiatives such as 'Foundations of a New Generation of Community Forestry in the Congo Basin' and 'Community-Led Forest Economies'. Interns will engage in various tasks that enhance their understanding of community forestry and its socio-economic implications, while also gaining practical experience in research and program support.

Duties and Responsibilities:
Interns will be responsible for supporting documentary research, data collection, and socio-economic analysis related to community-managed forests in Cameroon and RDC. They will assist in developing a lexicon of types of community-led forest economies in the Congo Basin, particularly in Cameroon, RDC, Republic of Congo, and Gabon. Additionally, interns will help compile illustrative case studies of best practices and innovations in community forest management within the Congo Basin. They will also conduct a review of the challenges and success factors associated with establishing and implementing community-led forest management. Throughout the internship, interns will support the organization of activities and are expected to produce a report that includes lessons learned and innovative proposals based on their contributions.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates must possess a Master's degree or equivalent in social sciences, anthropology, or related fields. They should have one or two experiences in collecting, analyzing, and reporting socio-economic data within the forestry or sustainable development sectors. A good understanding of the forestry sector in the Congo Basin is essential, along with proficiency in MS Office tools, particularly Excel, Word, and PowerPoint. Additional qualifications include strong analytical skills and the ability to work collaboratively in a team environment.

Educational Background:
A Master's degree or equivalent in social sciences, anthropology, or related fields is required for this position. This educational background is crucial for understanding the socio-economic dynamics and environmental issues related to community forestry.

Experience:
Interns should have one to two years of experience in data collection, analysis, and reporting in the socio-economic context of forestry or sustainable development. This experience is vital for effectively contributing to the research and analysis tasks outlined in the internship.

Languages:
Fluency in French is mandatory, given the locations of the internship in Cameroon and RDC. Proficiency in English is also beneficial, as it may enhance communication with international stakeholders and resources.

Additional Notes:
This is a full-time internship lasting three months, with flexible start and end dates. The internship is compensated at a rate of $200 per month. There are two positions available: one intern for Cameroon and one intern for RDC, with local offers. The internship will take place from December 1, 2025, to February 27, 2026, at the WRI offices in Kinshasa and Yaoundé.
