Job Overview: The Consultant for Climate Change and Environmental Sustainability (CCES) position is primarily focused on delivering specific outcomes related to climate change and environmental sustainability initiatives. The consultant will work remotely, managing their own time and ensuring that deliverables are submitted according to a predetermined schedule. This role requires the consultant to have a strong understanding of climate change issues and the ability to develop strategies that align with UNICEF's mission to protect children's rights and improve their lives in the face of environmental challenges. The consultant will be expected to engage with various stakeholders, including government agencies, NGOs, and community organizations, to promote sustainable practices and policies. The position is open to national consultants only, emphasizing the importance of local expertise in addressing climate-related challenges.
Duties and Responsibilities: The consultant will be responsible for a range of duties, including but not limited to:
Developing and implementing strategies for climate change adaptation and mitigation that align with UNICEF's goals.
Conducting research and analysis on environmental sustainability issues affecting children and communities.
Collaborating with UNICEF staff and external partners to design and execute projects aimed at enhancing environmental sustainability.
Preparing reports and presentations to communicate findings and recommendations to stakeholders.
Participating in meetings and workshops to advocate for children's rights in the context of climate change.
Monitoring and evaluating the impact of implemented strategies and providing feedback for continuous improvement.
Ensuring that all deliverables are met on time and in accordance with the contract specifications.
Engaging in capacity-building activities to empower local communities in sustainable practices.
Required Qualifications: Candidates must possess a strong background in environmental science, climate change, or a related field. A proven track record of working on climate change initiatives, particularly those that focus on children's rights and welfare, is essential. The consultant should have excellent analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to work independently and manage multiple tasks effectively. Strong communication and interpersonal skills are necessary for engaging with diverse stakeholders and advocating for sustainable practices. Familiarity with UNICEF's mission and values, as well as experience in project management, will be advantageous.
Educational Background: A minimum of a master's degree in environmental science, climate change, sustainable development, or a related field is required. Additional certifications or training in project management, climate policy, or child rights will be considered an asset. Candidates should demonstrate a commitment to continuous learning and professional development in the field of climate change and environmental sustainability.
Experience: The ideal candidate should have at least 5 years of relevant experience in climate change, environmental sustainability, or a related area. Experience working with international organizations, NGOs, or government agencies on projects related to children's rights and environmental issues is highly desirable. The consultant should have a proven ability to deliver results in a timely manner and demonstrate a strong understanding of the complexities surrounding climate change and its impact on vulnerable populations.
Languages: Fluency in English is mandatory, both written and spoken. Proficiency in additional languages, particularly Hindi or other regional languages, is considered a strong advantage, as it will facilitate communication with local stakeholders and communities.
Additional Notes: This consultancy position is home-based, with a contract duration of 12 months. The consultant will be required to visit the UNICEF office in New Delhi for meetings as necessary, as agreed upon with the contract supervisor. The contract is delivery-based, meaning that the consultant will be compensated based on the successful completion of specified deliverables.
