Duties and Responsibilities: The Political Affairs Officer will be responsible for the following duties:
Gather, select, and analyze information from various sources, including press communications and publications.
Maintain current knowledge of political issues and geopolitical developments impacting international peace and security.
Provide technical and substantive support for the implementation of mandates within the office.
Monitor political developments at global and regional levels and advise field missions accordingly.
Maintain contacts with other UN sectors, international organizations, and governments on policy matters.
Monitor actions taken by intergovernmental groups and other organizations.
Classify and store information related to potential disputes and conflicts in computerized databases.
Participate in fact-finding missions and other assignments as required.
Collect and analyze data to identify trends and provide insights through various data visualization methods. 1

Experience: Candidates must have a minimum of five years of progressively responsible experience in political science, international relations, law, disarmament, security, development management, conflict resolution, or a related area. Experience working in intergovernmental processes related to peace and security within an international organization is essential. Additionally, candidates should have experience in drafting major policy documents and conducting geopolitical analysis. Experience in engaging in reform processes within international organizations is desirable, as it demonstrates the ability to navigate complex institutional environments and contribute to meaningful change.
Languages: English is the required working language for this position, with a minimum proficiency level of UN Level III in reading, writing, listening, and speaking. French is also a working language of the United Nations, and proficiency in French is considered an asset.
