Job Posting Organization: SOLIDARITÉS INTERNATIONAL (SI) has been operational in South Sudan since 2006, focusing on emergency and post-emergency contexts, particularly in rural and semi-urban areas. The organization is dedicated to addressing critical humanitarian needs, especially in regions affected by conflict and natural disasters. SI has a significant presence in the country, with a mission budget projected to exceed USD 6 million in 2025 and a workforce of around 60 employees. The organization operates in various sectors, including Water, Sanitation, and Hygiene (WASH) and security" style="border-bottom: 1px dotted #007bff !important;">security" style="border-bottom: 1px dotted #007bff !important;">Food Security and Livelihoods (FSL), and is recognized for its expertise in emergency response, particularly in cholera outbreaks. Job Overview: The Reporting and Communications Officer (RCO) will work under the supervision of the Grants Manager, focusing on enhancing the quality of reporting and communication within the organization. The RCO will be responsible for reviewing and synthesizing high-quality reports, including proposals and assessment documents, ensuring compliance with donor requirements. The role also involves improving internal communication across coordination levels and field bases, actively participating in the external communication strategy, and designing communication materials. A significant aspect of the position includes training and supporting the national RCO, emphasizing capacity building and reinforcement. The RCO will face challenges such as collaborating with consortiums for emergency response projects and increasing funding for the mission, which necessitates more reporting and project management.
Duties and Responsibilities: The RCO's primary duties include:
Reviewing and synthesizing high-quality reports, proposals, and assessment documents for internal and external distribution.
Supporting the Grants Department in various projects and ensuring compliance with donor regulations.
Enhancing internal communication strategies at both coordination and field levels.
Actively participating in the development and execution of the external communication strategy.
Designing and producing regular external communication papers.
Training and mentoring the national RCO to build their capacity and reinforce their skills.
Collaborating with various teams to implement emergency response projects effectively.
Engaging in communication projects that align with the organization's mission and goals.
Adapting to the evolving security context in South Sudan and ensuring the safety of all communications and movements.
Required Qualifications: Candidates must possess a degree in a relevant discipline such as humanitarian aid, journalism, or political science. A first experience in the humanitarian sector is considered an asset. The position requires strong written skills, analytical abilities, and organizational skills. A solid understanding of humanitarian funding systems and key donors, including BHA, UN, and ECHO, is essential. Candidates should demonstrate proactivity, solution-oriented thinking, teamwork in a multicultural environment, effective communication, and good stress management skills. The ability to draft reports and proposals with precision is crucial, as this constitutes a significant part of the role.
Educational Background: A degree in a relevant field such as humanitarian aid, journalism, political science, or a related discipline is required. This educational background provides the foundational knowledge necessary for understanding the complexities of humanitarian work and effective communication strategies.
Experience: The position requires 0-2 years of experience in the humanitarian sector, with a preference for candidates who have held similar positions. This level of experience is essential for understanding the operational challenges and dynamics of working in a humanitarian context, particularly in emergency response situations.
Languages: Fluency in English, both spoken and written, is mandatory for this position. Proficiency in Arabic is also required, and knowledge of other South Sudanese languages would be considered an asset, enhancing communication with local communities and stakeholders.
Additional Notes: The position is salaried, with compensation starting from EUR 2035 gross per month, which includes a base salary of EUR 1850 and a 10% annual leave allowance paid monthly. Additionally, a monthly Per Diem of USD 700 is provided. SI covers accommodation costs and travel expenses between the expatriate's country of origin and the place of assignment. The organization implements a work-break system, allowing for 7 working days off every three months, along with a USD 850 break allowance. Expatriates benefit from a comprehensive insurance package covering healthcare expenses, including medical, surgical, dental, and repatriation costs.
