Job Overview: The Nutrition Programme Support position is designed to provide essential support to nutrition programs and activities aimed at meeting the nutritional needs of affected populations in Sierra Leone. The incumbent will work closely with the Head of Nutrition within the Country Office’s Programme Unit, contributing to the development and management of nutrition projects that align with WFP's broader nutrition policies and guidelines. This role involves project management support for specific nutrition initiatives, ensuring that they are executed in a coordinated manner that complies with WFP standards. The position also requires the development and coordination of data gathering and monitoring systems to maintain high-quality standards, as well as tracking and analyzing data to inform reporting activities. The incumbent will liaise with various stakeholders, including implementing partners, to ensure effective collaboration and timely project delivery. Additionally, the role includes supporting capacity building efforts for WFP staff and partners, advocating for nutrition requirements in emergency preparedness actions, and providing technical guidance to junior field staff. Overall, this position plays a crucial role in enhancing the nutritional landscape in Sierra Leone, particularly in addressing malnutrition and promoting dietary diversity.
Duties and Responsibilities: The key accountabilities for this position include:
Contributing to the development of nutrition projects and activities, ensuring alignment with WFP's nutrition policies and guidance.
Providing project management support for specific nutrition projects, ensuring compliance with WFP standards and procedures.
Developing and coordinating data gathering and monitoring systems to maintain rigorous quality standards.
Tracking and analyzing project data to contribute to management and donor reporting.
Liaising with internal and external partners to monitor ongoing projects and ensure effective collaboration.
Supporting the identification of potential partners and partnership negotiations.
Assisting in capacity building for WFP staff, partners, and national government in nutrition preparedness and response.
Ensuring adherence to donor funding agreements and project-specific deliverables. 1
Providing technical guidance to junior field staff to ensure compliance with corporate standards and donor requirements. 1
Conducting supportive field visits and technical backstopping missions at least quarterly.
Required Qualifications: The required qualifications for this position include:
Advanced University degree in Public Health Nutrition, Nutrition, Food Technology, Medicine, or a related field.
Minimum of 3 years of experience working in public health, security" style="border-bottom: 1px dotted #007bff !important;">security" style="border-bottom: 1px dotted #007bff !important;">food security, or nutrition programs.
Proven experience in identifying and defining nutrition issues within a specific context.
Knowledge of nutrition-specific and nutrition-sensitive programming approaches.
Strong problem-solving and time management skills.
Ability to work collaboratively as part of a team and provide technical supervision to junior staff.
Educational Background: Candidates must possess an advanced university degree in a relevant field such as Public Health Nutrition, Nutrition, Food Technology, Medicine, or other related disciplines. This educational background is essential for understanding the complexities of nutrition programs and the health implications of food security.
Experience: Candidates should have a minimum of 3 years of relevant experience in public health, food security, or nutrition programs. This experience should include identifying and defining nutrition issues within a specific country or context, demonstrating the ability to analyze and address complex nutritional challenges effectively.
Languages: Fluency in English (level C) is mandatory for this position. Proficiency in additional languages may be considered an asset but is not required.
