Job Overview:
The Technical Support Officer position at WFP is designed to perform specialized and standardized policy and program-related processes and activities that support the effective delivery of assistance packages. This role is crucial in ensuring that WFP's programs align with wider policies and guidelines, particularly in the areas of gender mainstreaming and accountability to affected populations. The officer will be responsible for providing technical support, assisting in the development and implementation of various activities, and ensuring that the programs are responsive to the needs of the communities served. The position requires a proactive approach to problem-solving and collaboration with various stakeholders, including local partners, NGOs, and government institutions, to ensure efficient security" style="border-bottom: 1px dotted #007bff !important;">security" style="border-bottom: 1px dotted #007bff !important;">food security analyses and the delivery of food assistance. The officer will also play a key role in capacity building for WFP staff and partners, focusing on gender equality, protection, and disability inclusion, thereby contributing to the overall mission of WFP to save and change lives.

Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Provide technical support and assist in the development and implementation of various activities and processes within the specific area of work, ensuring alignment with wider program policies and guidelines.
  • Support the integration of gender-responsive and gender-transformative approaches into WFP programming and operations at the field office level.
  • Document issues, challenges, and lessons learned from program implementation at the field office level and share insights with relevant units to inform program learning and strategic direction.
  • Ensure accurate and timely recording of data related to protection from sexual exploitation and abuse (PSEA), child protection, gender-based violence (GBV), accountability to affected populations (AAP), and other humanitarian issues.
  • Liaise with internal counterparts to foster effective collaboration and monitor ongoing project activities.
  • Coordinate with local partners, agencies, NGOs, and government institutions to conduct food security analyses and ensure efficient food assistance delivery.
  • Support capacity building initiatives for WFP staff, cooperating partners, and national government on PSEA, protection, AAP, gender equality, and disability inclusion.
  • Act as a point of contact for resolving operational queries and challenges within the specific technical area of responsibility.
  • Follow standard emergency preparedness practices to ensure WFP can respond quickly to crises. 1
  • Provide support in developing and implementing activities related to AAP and Complaints and Feedback Mechanism (CFM). 1
  • Perform other duties as required.

Required Qualifications:
The ideal candidate for the Technical Support Officer position should possess a strong background in humanitarian assistance, with a focus on gender, protection, and inclusion. Candidates should have demonstrated experience in facilitating communication with technical teams and contributing to the implementation of relevant programs. A solid understanding of community development, food security, and livelihoods is essential. The candidate should also have experience in policy discussions and be able to navigate complex operational environments effectively.

Educational Background:
Candidates are required to have completed secondary school education, with a post-secondary certificate in a related functional area being desirable. This educational background will provide the foundational knowledge necessary for the technical aspects of the role.

Experience:
A minimum of 5 years of professional job experience in a related field is required for this position. This experience should include working in humanitarian settings, with a focus on gender, protection, and community engagement. Candidates should have a proven track record of successfully implementing programs and collaborating with diverse stakeholders.

Languages:
Fluency in both oral and written communication in Portuguese and local languages is mandatory. A working knowledge of English is considered an advantage, as it will facilitate communication with international teams and stakeholders.

Additional Notes:
This position is classified as a Service Contract (SC5) and is open to Mozambican Nationals only. Female-qualified candidates are highly encouraged to apply.
