Job Posting Organization: The Statistics Division of the United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (ESCAP) is dedicated to enhancing the quality and availability of statistics in the Asia-Pacific region. Established to support the region's development goals, ESCAP works with various stakeholders to implement programs that build statistical capacity and promote the use of data for informed decision-making. The organization operates across multiple countries in Asia and the Pacific, collaborating with national statistical offices and other international organizations to ensure that statistical practices adhere to the highest standards. Job Overview: The internship within the Statistics Division is designed for individuals seeking to gain practical experience in statistical analysis and data management. Interns will work under the supervision of experienced staff members, engaging in a variety of tasks that support the division's objectives. The internship is structured to last a minimum of three months, with the possibility of extension up to six months, depending on the needs of the division. Interns are expected to commit to a full-time schedule of five days per week, totaling 35 hours. This role provides an excellent opportunity for interns to apply their academic knowledge in a real-world setting, contributing to significant projects such as the Asia-Pacific SDG Progress Report. Interns will also have the chance to enhance their skills in data visualization, statistical techniques, and effective communication of complex data findings.
Duties and Responsibilities: Interns will be involved in a range of responsibilities that may vary based on their individual backgrounds and the specific needs of the Statistics Division. Key duties include:
Assisting in the dissemination of the SDG progress report via ESCAP’s web platform, utilizing AI tools to enhance accessibility and engagement.
Supporting the visualization of SDG data to ensure that it is presented in a user-friendly manner, facilitating better understanding and use of the information.
Aiding the Statistical DataManagement Unit (SDMU) in improving data management practices and applying statistical techniques for the analysis of SDG data.
Performing additional tasks as assigned, which may include data collection, analysis, and reporting, contributing to the overall mission of the Statistics Division.
Required Qualifications: Candidates must possess a Bachelor’s degree in statistics, mathematics, engineering, or a related field. Proficiency in standard software applications is essential, as interns will be expected to utilize various tools for data analysis and presentation. Strong analytical skills and attention to detail are crucial for success in this role. Additionally, candidates should demonstrate a willingness to learn and adapt to new challenges in a dynamic work environment.
Educational Background: A Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field such as statistics, mathematics, or engineering is required for this internship.
