Job Overview: The Health & NutritionAdvisor position is a critical role within Save the Children Canada, responsible for providing technical leadership in the Health & Nutrition portfolio. This position involves overseeing both development and humanitarian programming, ensuring that initiatives align with global strategies and growth targets. The Advisor will engage with donors, support proposal development, and advocate for policy changes in the Nutrition sector. The role requires a strong focus on evidence-based and gender-transformative approaches, as well as collaboration with various stakeholders to enhance the effectiveness of health and nutrition programs. The Advisor will also represent Save the Children in relevant technical working groups and contribute to the development of advocacy strategies to mobilize resources and influence policy changes.
Duties and Responsibilities: The Health & Nutrition Advisor will lead the generation of new funding opportunities from institutional and private sources, ensuring alignment with the organization's strategic plan. Responsibilities include assisting in proposal development, maintaining relationships with key funders and partners, and ensuring technical quality at the country level. The Advisor will manage strategic partnerships, support the execution of advocacy strategies, and produce high-quality thought leadership materials. Additionally, the role involves designing and evaluating innovative health and nutrition programs, monitoring sector developments, and co-leading program impact initiatives to generate compelling evidence for design" style="border-bottom: 1px dotted #007bff !important;">program design and implementation.
Required Qualifications: Candidates must possess post-secondary education in a relevant field or equivalent experience, along with a minimum of 5-7 years in International Development or the NGO sector. Advanced knowledge of global health and nutrition policies, particularly in Canada, is essential. Proven experience in gender-transformative programming and proposal development, particularly with GAC, is required. Strong communication and interpersonal skills are necessary for building relationships across diverse audiences, and candidates should demonstrate thought leadership through contributions to academic and professional forums. Proficiency in project management and the ability to work under pressure are also critical.
Educational Background: A relevant post-secondary degree is required, with a preference for candidates who have pursued further education or specialized training in health, nutrition, or international development. Equivalent experience in related fields may also be considered, particularly for candidates who have demonstrated significant contributions to health and nutrition initiatives.
Experience: The position requires a minimum of 5-7 years of relevant experience in the International Development sector, specifically within NGOs or not-for-profit organizations. Candidates should have a proven track record of working on health and nutrition programs, with experience in proposal development and donor engagement. Familiarity with gender-transformative programming and the ability to manage complex projects are essential for success in this role.
Languages: Fluency in English is mandatory, and proficiency in additional languages such as French, Spanish, or Arabic is considered an asset. Strong communication skills are necessary to engage effectively with diverse stakeholders and to produce high-quality materials for advocacy and public engagement.
Additional Notes: This position is a full-time role under a 2-year contract, with a salary range of $73,701.34 - $88,441.61 CAD, depending on skills and experience. The organization offers a comprehensive benefits package, including health benefits, a hybrid workplace, flexible work hours, and various leave options. Employees are also entitled to a pension plan and opportunities for professional development. The role may require occasional travel, both locally and internationally, but this is expected to be less than 10% of the time.
