Job Overview: The NutritionAdvisor role is pivotal within Save the Children Canada, providing technical leadership for the organization's Nutrition portfolio, which encompasses both development and humanitarian programming. This position is responsible for leading donor engagement, supporting proposal development with Country Offices, and implementing evidence-based, gender-transformative approaches. The Advisor will represent Save the Children within the Nutrition sector and the broader network, advancing strategic priorities and policy advocacy efforts both in Canada and internationally. The role requires a proactive approach to identifying funding opportunities and cultivating relationships with key stakeholders in the Nutrition sector, ensuring that Save the Children’s initiatives are aligned with global health and nutrition strategies.
Duties and Responsibilities: The Nutrition Advisor will lead pre-positioning and new opportunity generation from institutional and private sources, particularly focusing on funding Nutrition programs that align with global strategic plans. Responsibilities include assisting in proposal development and providing technical oversight, leveraging expertise and learnings from existing programs. The Advisor will cultivate relationships with funders, research institutes, and peer NGOs, ensuring technical quality at the country level through effective collaboration with Regional and Country offices. The role also involves managing strategic partnerships with research and technical partners, representing Save the Children in relevant Technical Working Groups, and supporting the development of advocacy strategies to influence policy changes. Additionally, the Advisor will lead the design and evaluation of innovative Health & Nutrition programming, monitor sector developments, and co-lead program impact initiatives to generate compelling evidence for program design and implementation.
Required Qualifications: Candidates must possess post-secondary education in a relevant field or equivalent experience, along with a minimum of 5-7 years of experience in International Development or the NGO sector. Advanced knowledge of global health and nutrition policy, particularly in relation to Canadian partners and donors, is essential. Proven experience in gender-transformative programming and demonstrated proficiency in proposal development, especially with GAC, is required. Strong understanding of gender equality principles, along with demonstrated thought leadership through contributions to academic publications and public speaking engagements, is highly valued. Excellent communication, interpersonal, and teamwork skills are necessary to build strong relationships across diverse cultural and organizational settings.
Educational Background: A relevant post-secondary education is required, which may include degrees in public health, nutrition, international development, or related fields. Equivalent experience in a similar role may also be considered in lieu of formal education. Candidates should have a strong foundation in health and nutrition policies and practices, particularly as they relate to children and vulnerable populations.
Experience: The position requires a minimum of 5-7 years of relevant experience in International Development, particularly within NGOs or not-for-profit sectors. Candidates should have a proven track record of working in health and nutrition programming, with specific experience in gender-transformative initiatives. Experience in proposal development and engagement with funding bodies, particularly GAC, is essential. Demonstrated project management experience and the ability to work under pressure to meet tight deadlines are also critical for success in this role.
Languages: Fluency in English is mandatory, while proficiency in French, Spanish, or Arabic is considered an asset. The ability to communicate effectively with diverse audiences is crucial for building relationships and advocating for Save the Children’s initiatives in the Nutrition sector.
Additional Notes: This position is a 2-year contract and falls under the CUPE Bargaining Unit. The salary range for this role is between $73,701.34 - $88,441.61 CAD, depending on skills and experience.
