Job Overview:
The Project Assistant will play a crucial role in supporting the implementation and monitoring of the peacebuilding portfolio under the guidance of the Programme Manager and National Project Officer. This position requires the incumbent to coordinate with field staff and community agents, ensuring effective communication and collaboration within assigned communities. The role involves significant travel to various project sites, where the Project Assistant will assist in the day-to-day operations of the project, including training community members, monitoring and evaluation processes, and producing regular reports on field activities. The Project Assistant will also be responsible for identifying potential risks associated with the project and assisting in organizing field visits. This position is essential for maintaining the project's momentum and ensuring that objectives are met in a timely and efficient manner.

Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Support the implementation and monitoring of the peacebuilding portfolio in assigned communities.
  • Liaise and coordinate with community agents to facilitate project activities.
  • Assist in the preparation and delivery of training sessions for community members.
  • Conduct monitoring visits and assist in evaluation processes, including data entry.
  • Produce regular update reports on field activities and project progress.
  • Notify the Programme Manager of any potential or emerging risks associated with the project.
  • Organize and facilitate internal and external field visits.
  • Guide, train, and assist in coordinating the work of field staff.

  • Perform any other duties as assigned by the National Project Officer or Programme Manager.

Required Qualifications:
  • A Bachelor’s degree from an accredited academic institution in a relevant field with at least three years of relevant experience, or a completed High School degree with five years of relevant experience.
  • Experience working in large teams within humanitarian or development contexts is required.
  • Proven ability to communicate effectively with communities and community leaders.
  • Experience in livelihoods or income generation work is highly desirable.
  • Familiarity with conflict prevention, mediation, or psychosocial counseling is also highly desirable.
  • Excellent planning and organizational skills, with the ability to meet deadlines and work under pressure.
  • Strong communication and negotiation skills, with the ability to present clear and concise information.

Educational Background:
Candidates must possess a Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution in a relevant field. Alternatively, candidates with a completed High School degree from an accredited institution and five years of relevant experience will also be considered. Accredited universities are those listed in the UNESCO World Higher Education Database, ensuring that the educational qualifications meet international standards.

Experience:
The position requires candidates to have a minimum of three years of relevant experience if they hold a Bachelor’s degree, or five years of relevant experience if they have a High School diploma. Experience in working within large teams in humanitarian or development contexts is essential, as is experience in engaging with communities and community leaders. Additional experience in livelihoods or income generation initiatives, as well as conflict prevention and mediation, is highly desirable and will enhance a candidate's suitability for the role.

Languages:
Proficiency in IOM’s official languages, which include English, French, and Spanish, is mandatory. Candidates will be evaluated on their language skills during the selection process, which may include written and/or oral assessments. Additionally, knowledge of any local spoken languages from North Mozambique is considered desirable and may provide an advantage in community engagement.

Additional Notes:
The position is subject to local recruitment, meaning that only candidates holding a valid residence and work permit for Mozambique will be eligible for consideration. Any offer made to the candidate is contingent upon funding confirmation. The selection process may also be used to fill similar positions in various duty stations, and recommended candidates will remain eligible for appointment in similar roles for a period of 24 months. Candidates must be medically fit for appointment, and their residency, visa, and other authorizations will be verified by the concerned government where applicable.
