Job Posting Organization:
The UN Resident Coordinator’s Office (UN RCO) in Nepal operates under the strategic guidance of the UN Resident Coordinator (RC) and plays a crucial role in supporting the UN Country Team (UNCT) in advancing the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development. The organization is dedicated to fostering collaboration among various stakeholders, including the Government of Nepal and other Development Partners, to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). The UN RCO is composed of a team of experts specializing in development and humanitarian coordination, information management, human rights, gender equality, and communications. The office is committed to ensuring a coordinated and coherent approach across the UN's work in Nepal, thereby enhancing the effectiveness of development efforts in the country.

Job Overview:
The internship at the UN Resident Coordinator’s Office (UN RCO) in Nepal is designed to provide a comprehensive learning experience for individuals interested in international development and humanitarian work. Interns will be engaged in a variety of tasks that support the UN RCO's mission to facilitate the implementation of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development. The internship is full-time and unpaid, requiring interns to work five days a week under the supervision of the Head of the UN RCO. Interns will gain valuable insights into the workings of the UN system, develop professional skills, and contribute to meaningful projects that align with the UN's goals. The role involves a mix of administrative, research, and project management tasks, providing a well-rounded experience in a dynamic international environment.

Duties and Responsibilities:
Interns at the UN RCO will be responsible for a variety of tasks that are essential to the functioning of the office. Key duties include:
  • Administrative Support: Managing the Head's calendar, scheduling meetings, and handling correspondence to ensure smooth operations within the office.
  • Coordination: Facilitating communication between the Resident Coordinator's Office and other departments, UN agencies, and external partners to promote collaboration and information sharing.
  • Research and Analysis: Conducting research on relevant topics, preparing reports, and providing insights on key issues and initiatives that support the UN's objectives.
  • Event Management: Organizing and coordinating events, meetings, and conferences to foster dialogue and collaboration among stakeholders.
  • Documentation: Preparing and reviewing documents, presentations, briefing materials, and meeting minutes to ensure accurate and effective communication.
  • Speech and Talking Points Preparation: Drafting speeches, talking points, and other communication materials for the Head to enhance public engagement and advocacy efforts.
  • Project Management: Assisting in the planning and execution of special projects and initiatives that align with the UN RCO's strategic goals.

Required Qualifications:
Applicants must meet one of the following requirements to be eligible for the internship: (a) be enrolled in, or have completed, a graduate school programme (second university degree or equivalent, or higher), or (b) be enrolled in, or have completed, the final academic year of a first university degree programme (minimum bachelor’s degree or equivalent). No prior work experience is required to apply for the United Nations Internship Programme, making this opportunity accessible to recent graduates and students. Candidates should possess skills and knowledge that can contribute to the UN's mission during their internship.

Educational Background:
The educational background required for this internship includes either enrollment in or completion of a graduate school programme or the final academic year of a first university degree programme.
