The position of Online Volunteer Translator involves translating a crucial internal resource guide for UNDP personnel titled 'Where to Go When – A Resource Guide for UNDP Personnel' from English to Portuguese. This document is approximately 45 pages long and provides essential guidance to UNDP personnel on where to seek advice, report concerns, and access support regarding ethics, conduct, workplace behavior, and staff safety and well-being. The translation is vital for ensuring that Portuguese-speaking colleagues can easily access and understand this information, thereby promoting inclusion, transparency, and accountability within the organization. The role requires the translator to ensure that the translation is accurate, clear, and aligned with UNDP's communication tone and terminology while maintaining the original layout and formatting of the document as much as possible. Duties and Responsibilities:
The Online Volunteer will be responsible for the following duties:
  • Translate the document titled 'Where to Go When – A Resource Guide for UNDP Personnel' from English to Portuguese, ensuring that the translation is accurate and clear.
  • Align the translation with UNDP's communication tone and terminology to maintain consistency and professionalism.
  • Preserve the original layout and formatting of the document in the translated version to ensure that it is user-friendly and accessible.
  • Collaborate with UNDP personnel to clarify any ambiguities or uncertainties in the text to ensure the highest quality of translation.
  • Submit the completed translation within the agreed timeframe to allow for review and feedback.
  • Be open to making revisions based on feedback from UNDP personnel to enhance the quality of the final document.

Required Qualifications:
The ideal candidate for this position should possess the following qualifications:
  • Proficiency in both English and Portuguese, with excellent written communication skills in both languages.
  • Experience in translation, particularly in the context of organizational or institutional documents, is highly desirable.
