Job Overview:
The position of Especialista en Turismo Sostenible is crucial for the successful implementation of the project 'Establecimiento de una Economía Circular para un Turismo Sostenible en la Región del Cusco, Perú'. This role involves designing and implementing sustainable tourism strategies that integrate circular economy principles, fostering innovation and intercultural dialogue to protect the cultural and natural heritage of the Cusco region. The specialist will work closely with local communities, stakeholders, and project coordinators to ensure effective project management and alignment with UNESCO's objectives. The position requires a proactive approach to address environmental challenges posed by tourism and waste management in the region, contributing to sustainable development goals.

Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Conduct a mapping of stakeholders in the tourism sector and the value chain of inorganic solid waste management, including characterization and classification of actors based on competencies, interests, and capacities for applying circular economy approaches.
  • Develop a baseline and monitoring indicators related to the application of circular economy principles in tourism management, particularly focusing on inorganic solid waste. This includes diagnostics to assess the level of circular economy application among tourism stakeholders and creating measurable indicators for implementation.
  • Design and implement mechanisms to promote sustainable tourism with a circular economy focus among tourism actors, including national and international best practices mapping and proposing incentive mechanisms for circular economy integration.
  • Lead the design and implementation of training and awareness programs for tourism sector actors on sustainable tourism and circular economy, including content on World Heritage protection.
  • Support project positioning and relationship-building with tourism sector stakeholders, participating in meetings and coordinating with public institutions, guilds, and service providers.
  • Perform other functions as assigned by the project coordinator, with prior authorization from the National Culture Officer.

Required Qualifications:
• University degree in Tourism, Forestry Sciences, Biology, or related fields. • Specialized studies or postgraduate degree in Sustainable Tourism, Circular Economy, Heritage Management, Environmental Management, or Sustainable Development. • Minimum of five years of professional experience in the private or public sector. • At least three years of general experience in projects related to sustainable tourism, environmental management, or circular economy. • Experience in promoting environmental education activities directed at tourism value chain actors. • Experience in stakeholder mapping within the tourism sector is required. • Desirable experience in international cooperation projects with sustainability components, circular economy, tourism, or solid waste management, especially in socio-culturally diverse areas.

Educational Background:
Candidates must possess a university degree in relevant fields such as Tourism, Forestry Sciences, Biology, or similar disciplines. Additionally, candidates should have completed specialized studies or postgraduate education in areas such as Sustainable Tourism, Circular Economy, Heritage Management, Environmental Management, or Sustainable Development, which are essential for understanding the complexities of the role.

Experience:
The position requires a minimum of five years of professional experience in either the private or public sector, with at least three years specifically in projects related to sustainable tourism, environmental management, or circular economy. Candidates should also have at least two previous experiences in promoting environmental education targeted at tourism sector actors, and must have conducted at least one stakeholder mapping exercise within the tourism sector. Desirable experience includes involvement in international cooperation projects that focus on sustainability, circular economy, tourism, or solid waste management, particularly in areas with diverse sociocultural contexts.

Languages:
Fluency in Spanish is mandatory, as it is the native language of the region. Proficiency in English, both spoken and written, is also required to facilitate communication with international stakeholders. Knowledge of Quechua is considered a desirable asset, reflecting the cultural context of the Cusco region and enhancing engagement with local communities.

Additional Notes:
The contract for this position will last for 11 months, subject to budget availability and performance evaluation. It is important to note that this contract does not include expectations for renewal or conversion to another type of contract, nor does it provide coverage for medical services.
