Job Posting Organization:
The United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (ESCAP) is a regional development arm of the United Nations Secretariat, established to promote sustainable and inclusive development and regional connectivity in the Asia and Pacific region. ESCAP supports its member states through policy-oriented research, normative support, technical assistance, and capacity building to address development priorities and changing needs. The organization operates in multiple countries across the Asia and Pacific region, focusing on enhancing cooperation among its members and associate members, as well as other interested member states of the United Nations.

Job Overview:
The internship-position" style="border-bottom: 1px dotted #007bff !important;">internship position at ESCAP is designed to provide practical experience in the field of sustainable agricultural mechanization and technology. Interns will work full-time for a minimum of two months, with the possibility of extending up to six months. The role involves supporting ongoing projects, assisting with social media outreach, providing administrative support, and working on presentations. Interns will also be responsible for consolidating and sorting data, which will depend on their individual backgrounds and the specific needs of the division or office they are assigned to. This internship is unpaid, and interns are expected to work five days a week, totaling 37.5 hours per week, under the supervision of a staff member.

Duties and Responsibilities:
Interns will be tasked with a variety of responsibilities that may include:
  • Providing support to ongoing projects related to sustainable agricultural mechanization.
  • Assisting in social media outreach efforts to promote ESCAP initiatives and projects.
  • Offering administrative support to the division or office, which may involve organizing files, scheduling meetings, and managing communications.
  • Working on presentations, which may include creating slides, compiling information, and preparing materials for meetings or conferences.
  • Consolidating and sorting data to assist in research and analysis efforts.
  • Engaging in other tasks as assigned by the supervising staff member, which may vary based on the intern's skills and the needs of the organization.

Required Qualifications:
Applicants must meet one of the following qualifications: (a) be enrolled in, or have completed, a graduate school programme (second university degree or equivalent, or higher); or (b) be enrolled in, or have completed, the final academic year of a first university degree programme (minimum bachelor’s degree or equivalent).

Educational Background:
Candidates should have a background in fields relevant to the work of ESCAP, particularly in areas related to sustainable development, agricultural mechanization, or social sciences. A graduate degree or a bachelor's degree nearing completion is required for eligibility.

Experience:
While specific prior experience is not mandated, any relevant experience in project support, research, or administrative roles will be beneficial. Interns should demonstrate a willingness to learn and adapt to the working environment of the United Nations.

Languages:
Fluency in English is required for the internship programme, as it is one of the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. Knowledge of French is considered an asset, but not mandatory.
